Kenneth “Ken” Allen Ames
Kenneth “Ken” Allen Ames, 77, of Brice Prairie formerly of LaCrosse, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Mayo Hospital in LaCrosse.
He was born on November 13, 1940 to Allen and Genevieve Ames (Brown) at St. Ann’s Hospital in LaCrosse. He grew up on the Northside of LaCrosse, running around the Goose Green and Indian Hills area. After graduating from Logan High School in 1958, with is parents’ permission, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp at the age of 17, and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in Southern California.
He worked a variety of jobs, including several years at McCloon Metal Graphics, before landing his dream job at G. Heileman Brewing from which he eventually retired.
Kenny loved playing softball in the Tavern League and spending time with his family. He took his wife, Joyce, and 3 children Brad, Amy and Melissa on trips to Brewer games, Wisconsin Dells, the Smokey Mountains and several trips up North. He loved musky fishing, the Badgers, the Packers and the Marines.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Joyce Ames (Gabel), his beloved sister Jeanne (David) Holzer, his 3 children Brad (Katie) Ames, Amy (Greg) Adams , Melissa Gabel (Seth) Lentz, his 6 grandchildren Carlie and Carson Ames, Nick and Nate Adams, and Kali and Ethan Lentz, his 4 Great-Grandchildren Kaldon, Xander, Xavier and Whitley, brothers-in-law, Danny (Sarah) Gabel, Butch (Rita) Gabel, and a sister-in-law, Judy Richelson. He also had many nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends that he loved spending time and sharing stories with.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Al and Jenny Ames and his father and mother in-law Al and Marie Gabel.
He was proud to be an American and United States Marine!
A celebration of his life, with snacks and beer, will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Coulee Region Cremation Group, in the Gather Place, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska, from 2-6 pm with a memorial service at 5pm. Chaplain Jeff Thomson will be officiating.

KENNY & I WORKED WITH EACH OTHER MANY YEARS @ THE BREWERY .WE WOULD TAKE TURNS RUNNING THE LABELERS & ON LABEL INSPECTIONS. HE ALWAYS HAD A SMILE ON HIS FACE AND ALWAYS FOUND SOMETHING FUNNY TO SAY OR SOMETHING GOOD TO SAY ABOUT EVERYBODY HE WORKED WITH. IT WAS A GREAT PLEASURE TO HAVE WORKED WITH HIM!
