John Eric Atkin of La Crosse, 63, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2012, at home with his family by his side.

He was born on January 19, 1949, to John D. and Marjorie (Beck) Atkin. He enjoyed his family, football, car races, deer hunting, and fishing. He enjoyed bowling and met his wife, Cheryl Fillner, at a bowling alley on the North Side of La Crosse. He was a member of American Legion Post 52 for over 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, his son, John Michael, his friend, Dave, and his dog, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family wishes to thank all of the Mayo Hospice Nursing Staff and home care staff, and the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center doctors and staff.

A Celebration of John’s Life will be held Friday, March 23, 2012, from 1:00 – 4:00 P. M. at the American Legion Post 52, at 711 South 6^th Street, La Crosse.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are preferred. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
