Daniel James Schur, 65, of Sparta, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2012 at the Tomah VA Medical Center. He was born on April 1, 1947 to James and Patricia (Virgilio) Schur in Virginia, MN.

Dan graduated from Sparta Senior High School in 1965 and served in Vietnam from August 8, 1967 to March 19, 1969 with the US Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart. Dan worked as a barber at Ft. McCoy and later retired as a postal worker for the Rockland Post Office. He had a passion for cars, playing pool, and intellectual conversation with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Eileen; son, Gabriel (Katie); daughters, Molly (Matt) Puopolo, Mary Belknap; granddaughter, Annabelle Puopolo; brothers, Patrick(Beth), Michael, Don/Chris (Jane), Stephen(Mischell), Karl; sister, Carmen Luna Abbott; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral mass will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at 1:00 pm at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 319 West Main Street, Sparta WI.  The Rev. John Selva Manohar (Mano) will officiate with interment at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery with military honors.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to mass at the Church.   In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Disabled Veterans.  Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
