Alice Ann Kolstad
Alice Ann Kolstad, 86, passed away on October 25, 2017 at Bethany Riverside Nursing Home in La Crosse.
Alice was born to Oscar and Kathryn (Killilea) Flugstad on November 30, 1930 in rural Galesville, Wisconsin. She attended rural Ettrick schools and Galesville High School.
She was united in marriage to Harold B. Kolstad on May 15, 1948 in Arcadia, Wisconsin. They lived and raised their family near Arcadia. Harold preceded her in death in 1996.
Alice worked at the Remembrance Shop in Winona, and was a manager/buyer at Mary Allen Fashions and at Jandee’s, both in Winona. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Arcadia. She was a former member of Tamarack Lutheran Church, where she served for many years as a Sunday School teacher and in the women’s group. She was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Arcadia.
Alice enjoyed travel, reading, playing cards and dining out. She was always ready for a shopping trip, and enjoyed keeping her social calendar full. She dearly loved her husband, three children and eight grandchildren, with whom she shared many happy times. She was proud to be a great-grandmother of sixteen.
Alice is survived by her children: Marlys Kolstad of Arcadia, Keith (Gina) Kolstad of Galesville and Kimberly (Lindsay) Jordan of Waukesha, eight grandchildren: Anthony (Amy) Slaby, Noah (Sarah) Slaby, Kathryn (Ron) Peterson, Kendra (Jeremy) Rupp, Albert (Melanie) Kolstad, Allyn (Kim) Kolstad, Paul and Sam Jordan; sixteen great-grandchildren, her brother George “Bud” (Doris) Flugstad of Commerce City, Colorado and her sister Catherine Overson of Wichita, Kansas, along with several special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Alice was preceded in death by her sister, Mary J. Swenson, brother-in-law Arthur Swenson, brothers-in-law Ron Roth and Roger Overson, brother and sister-in-law Harry and Dee Trowbridge, former son-in-law Tony Slaby, and many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening, November 2 at Christ Lutheran Church, Lincoln and Owen Streets, Arcadia. Visitation will be at the church from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service. Officiating will be Alice’s son-in-law, the Rev. Dr. Lindsay Paul Jordan. Inurnment will be at Tamarack Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran Church, Bethany Lutheran Homes or Tamarack Lutheran Cemetery. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
