Alton A. Schroeder of Onalaska, WI, died December 13, 2016.  He was born Sept 9, 1921 in Reedsburg, WI to Rudolph and Rose Schroeder.

He graduated from Reedsburg High School and the University of WI- Madison.  He later received a Master’s Degree in Community Health from UW- La Crosse.  He was employed by the State Dept of Agriculture, the La Crosse City Health Department, and the State Board of Health from which he retired in 1987.

He served in the Armed Forces in WWII for 4 years.  He married Marjorie Gottschalk in 1953 and they were active in square dancing activities, serving on the state convention board and committees for Oktoberfest and Spring Fling.  They also owned Schalmar Riding Academy at Grand Crossing in the late 50’s.

Alton is survived by his wife, Marjorie; sons, John (Loy) Schroeder of Firth, ID, and Paul Schroeder of La Crosse, WI.  Other survivors are sisters, Margaret Thomas, Evelyn (Clarence) Stout, Betty (Wes) Lind, Alice Jearman; and sister-in-law, Joan Simdon.

He is preceded in death by a son, Jim; his parents; and 5 brothers.

No public service will be held.  Memorial may be given to Gundersen Health System.  Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
