Ambrose Joseph (AJ) Finney, 75, of La Crosse, died peacefully on January 16th, 2025, at The Benedictine Nursing Home. He was born on September 23rd, 1949, in La Crosse at Saint Francis Hospital to the late Edward (Vincent) and Agnes (Gianoli) Finney. He attended the one room schoolhouse on South Ridge and later graduated from Viroqua High School. He was drafted in 1968 and served in the army for 2 years in Germany during the Vietnam War.

AJ married Mary Schiatel and they had four children together. They lived in Genoa, WI and worked on the family farm in addition to working at Trane Company in La Crosse. Upon his divorce, he then went on to be a jack of all trades while working on the Milwaukee Railroad and Waste Management in La Crosse. He attended WWTC in 1984 and earned an Associate’s Degree in Welding.

AJ married Deborah Youngman, and they had one child together. He opened his own lawn care business, “Busy Bee Lawn Care” in La Crosse in 1987 and provided his special touch to lawns until 2017.

AJ was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah, parents, his sons, Michael and Jesse Finney, his sister, Judy, and brother Robert.

He is survived by his children; Amber Lehner of Las Vegas, NV, Jerry (Andrea) Finney of La Crosse, WI, Maggie (Joe) Berry of New Lisbon, WI, sister Mary (Steve) Berg of Genoa, WI, brother, Bill Finney of La Crosse, WI, 8 grandchildren Dan, Mike, Julia, Quinn, Levi, Harper, Eva, and Lucas and 4 great-grandchildren Bennett, Reid, Maverick and Laney.

Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for the staff at The Benedictine Nursing Home for their care during his time there.

Family and friends are welcome to join in to a celebration of life on Friday, January 31st at The VFW Post 1530 Thomas Rooney Post in La Crosse from 4-8pm. We ask that everyone dress in Packer or Brewer gear, as this would be his greatest wish – to celebrate his deep fandom and love for Wisconsin sports.

My deepest condolences to the Finney family. Ambrose was always such a kind soul. He was always so quick with his smile and maybe a quick word. I know he will be thought of with a smile and kind thought. May he rest in peace.
