Bernice (Be) Facteau

Bernice (Be) Facteau, 98, passed away on January 8, 2024 with her long time friend Cheri Weiss at her side and her family in her heart.

Be was born on May 18, 1925 at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin to Walter and Alice (Sennes) Ahlstrom. She graduated from La Crosse Central High School in 1943. Be met Robert Facteau while working at Fort McCoy. They were married in Chicago on July 20, 1946. She went to Italy in November 1946 during the Occupation after World War II. During her marriage as a military wife the family lived in Italy, Germany, North Carolina, Texas, Utah and Alaska, where her husband Robert died in 1956 at the age of 34. The family came back to La Crosse where Be worked for the Board of Education for 31 years. She started as the secretary at Washburn School and then Hintgen School. She also enjoyed answering questions and giving suggestions/information during the ten summers she worked for the Wisconsin Department of Tourism at the local tourist information trailer.

Be is survived by her son Robert (Carol), daughter Lynn (Keith) Bohlmann, five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great children. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, her husband Robert, her son John (Mike), her brother Victor, and her sister Evelyn Bergerson.

Be enjoyed life to the fullest and especially her family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, theater, loved to golf and was in a number of different bridge clubs.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 1, 2024, at the Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska, Wisconsin with a visitation at 11:00am and a service at 12:00pm. A lunch will follow the ceremony.
