Betty Lou Baumgartner, 88, of La Crosse, died Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at her home.

Betty was born in La Crosse, WI, on February 2, 1932 to George and Lula Koenig (Shallock). She married Thomas Baumgartner on March 1952 and they had four children. They resided on French Island, where she spent many hours assisting with the organic vegetable farm. She was a Central graduate, later going to Viterbo NA Program- then working many years at St. Francis Hospital (Mayo).

She was very active with hobbies including president for Sweet Adelines of La Crosse, tour guide for the historical society, water skiing, motorcycling, solo flight after many flying lessons, ceramics, crocheting and knitting, but she always remarked her favorite place was the Northside Library where she went weekly.

Betty also was a big advocate for donating blood, which she gave many gallons.

She is survived by her husband Thomas Baumgartner, son Steven (Sharon) Baumgartner-Brian, daughter Susan (Allan) Thurston-Ian (Ashley) and Moriah, son Thomas (Paula) Baumgartner- Jennie, Andrew (Mandy) and Hannah, Jerald (Angela) Baumgartner- Shane and Lance.

She was preceded in death by brother Alvin Koenig, sister Arline Koel and granddaughter Lorelei Thurston.

A special thank you for phone calls made, all visiting friends and relatives. Your help was greatly appreciated; the Love was felt and never to be forgotten.

Upon Betty’s request, there are no services.  Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
