Carol Ann Bramschreiber, of Bangor, Wisconsin, passed away on December 26, 2024, at 88 years of age.

Born on February 2, 1936, to Nina and Herbert Vanderzee in Michigan, Carol taught in Jefferson, Wisconsin where she met Tom Bramschreiber, who taught across the hallway from her. Carol and Tom were married on August 13, 1960, and the couple settled down at Vanderzee Farms in Bangor. Together, along with their children Jenny and Karl, they managed a successful beef cattle operation before becoming cash croppers later in life.

Beyond her teaching and farming endeavors, Carol was involved in her community and served others by sharing her time and resources. An extension of her love for the land and animals, Carol was affiliated with a variety of agriculture boards, including the Farm Bureau Board, and as an advocate for education, she served on the board of Wisconsin Western Technical College. Carol was also the past president and treasurer of the Burns Cemetery Association. A lover of literature and goddess of grammar, Carol was an avid supporter of the Bangor Library.

In her free time, Carol played the violin and piano and, as a friend of the arts, attended numerous performances at Viterbo College. Carol was also very interested in culture, traveling with her husband, Tom, and family friend, Phillip Loss, of Germany, throughout Europe.  Believing in the power of companionship provided by loving animals, Carol also had special bonds with her furry friends, Butch, Bobby, and Cody.  She leaves behind a special legacy shared with her son, Karl, through the gift of Ozzie, a support dog at a local family violence center.

Carol leaves on this earth her husband of 64 years, Tom Bramschreiber, her daughter, Jenny Steins, and her grandson, Nate Steins. In addition, Carol leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as special friends Marti Walker, Lee Steyer, Jane & Bill Brewer, Phillip Loss, and Linda Saley.  Preceding Carol in death were her parents, Nina & Herbert, her in-laws Sue & Walter Bramschreiber, her beloved son, Karl, brother, Dave, and many other family members and friends.

The family is being assisted by Coulee Region Cremation Group and would like to thank Morrow Home for the loving and meticulous care Carol received during her time in their home. To respect Carol’s wishes, a service will not be held. In place of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Carol’s name to Morrow Home in Sparta or the Bangor Public Library.

Carol was a firm believer that life goes on and we need to hold close those who touch our hearts. May her soul find eternal peace.

Sorry to hear of Carol’s passing. She was a good neighbor in the valley and during the time she and mom (Carol Huber) were at Marycrest together. She will be missed.

We were lucky to have known Carol and Tom, but only within the last 10 years or so. While we harvested apples from Tom’s apple orchard, we shared trout with them when we could. Carol ate them for breakfast. Lucky us to have known them. We’ve missed stopping by to say hi on our way to our cabin since Carol left. Dick and Susan Schoenberger

My condolences to Carols family. I first met Carol in the 1980s when we were on the Farm Bureeau Board together, and in future years with other Ag related groups. I would usually try to call her on Ground Hogs Day as I knew it was her birthday. And she would, for some time send me birthday wishes. We always would have great visits. Rest in peace Carol.

So sorry for your loss. Worked closely with Carol in the 80’s and 90’s with the Farm Bureau. She was very knowledgeable and a real go-to person on key issues that were helpful farm families. Ruth and I share our thoughts and prayers.

My condolences to Tom and family. I first met Carol in college when we were in the same sorority, and later, through affiliation with Farm Bureau activities. I always admired Carol’s keen knowledge of current affairs and her leadership qualities. My husband, Lawrence, always appreciated her input when forming resolutions for Farm Bureau consideration. Her contributions to her community and her various organizations were much appreciated and will be remembered.
