Carolyn Louise McDermitt
Carolyn Louise McDermitt, 71, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2013 at her home surrounded by her children after a quick but courageous battle with ALS/Lou Gehrigs disease. Carolyn was born May 27, 1941 in La Crosse, WI to Wilbur and Sarah Albrechtson and moved to Long Beach, CA when she was a child. She married Joseph L. McDermitt in Long Beach, CA and had four children. In 1968 Carolyn returned to La Crosse with her four children and later divorced Joseph.
Carolyn worked at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center as a switchboard operator for about 20 years. She also pursued her passion of interior decorating and received her interior design degree in 1993.
She is survived by her children, Joseph, Kathleen, Christine, David; grandchildren, Corey, Melissa, Jenny, Angela, Evan, Kyle, Travis, Tyler, Haley, Davis, Shayna; great grandchildren, Noah, Summer, Quinten, Kaylee, Alec, Kashtin, Isaac, Marlee, Tihun, Brody.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Janet Jansky.
The family would like to thank all of the staff involved with Carolyn’s care especially Gundersen Lutheran Hospice.
Per Carolyn’s wishes the family will hold a private celebration of life at a later date.
Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
I am sooo sorry to hear about Carolyn’s death. I had not talked with her for about two years. I have known Carolyn since about 1948 when we lived next door to each other in Long Beach, CA. We were friends throughout school and into our early 20’s when our lives took different directions. I will miss just knowing she is not “there” but I know she is at peace.
