Obituary
Charlotte Marie Dayton
Charlotte Marie (Ness) Dayton, 85, of La Crosse passed away Saturday September 28th, 2013 at Bethany St. Joseph Nursing Home after a brief battle with cancer. Charlotte was born January 28th, 1928 in La Crosse WI to Walter and Frances (Hnlicka) Ness. She attended and later graduated from Aquinas High School in 1946. She worked at Micro-Card in La Crosse. She married James A. Dayton Jr. on May 15th , 1954 at Saint Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
Charlotte enjoyed being outdoors, camping on the sandbar and fishing with her family. She also had quite a green thumb when it came to outdoor and indoor plants. She and Jim enjoyed playing cards and dice with family members Dorthy and Steve Gofus and Jeanne and Bill Affeldt. Her biggest joy however was the time she spent with her three grandsons. “The joys of her life!” She will be greatly missed by her entire family. Charlotte loved life and spent her time with her family wisely. We will remember all of the good times, good food (nut bread especially), but most of all her love for us. In the spirit of Charlotte we say “Go Packers” as she was an avid fan.
Charlotte is survived by her two children: David (Lois) Dayton of Green Bay WI. Their sons Alexander Dayton of Green Bay WI, and Nicholas (Alexandra) Dayton of Windermere Florida.
Sharon (Richard ) Smith Jr. of La Crosse, WI. Their son Austin Dayton (Erin McKenzie)of Onalaska, WI.
Charlotte is also survived by a sister Dorthy Gofus of Onalaska.
She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband Jim: a sister Delores Halas and her husband Leonard: a brother Walter Ness: a sister-in-law Lucille Ness: and brother-in-law Stephen Gofus.
Honoring Charlotte’s wishes, cremation will handled by the Coulee Region Cremation Group, and a private graveside service for the immediate family will be held at a later date. Our family would like to thank the entire hospice group who helped us along the way, and a special thanks to Sue for the compassion she showed all of us…especially Charlotte. The staff at Bethany St. Joe’s also for all their help and kindness in caring for Charlotte. Anyone wanting to send a memorial may send them in her name to the Salvation Army in La Crosse. Charlotte and Jim were both fond of the work they do.
Sharon, Rick and Austin: So very sorry for your loss. Charlotte was a special person and will be missed by everyone who knew her. We are thinking of you all and sending prayers your way. All my love, Sis.
