Connie Jene Libke

Connie Jene Libke, aged 68, of Onalaska, WI, passed away on October 18, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a zest for life as vibrant as the yellow brick road itself. Born on August 6, 1956, Connie was a lively, adventurous spirit, known for her infectious laugh, warm heart, and a carefree nature that reminded those around her that there’s no place like home. Her presence was a light that guided many, much like a guiding star in the night sky of Oz, always offering warmth and comfort to those fortunate enough to walk alongside her.

Throughout her life, Connie brought color to the world around her, much like Dorothy’s journey from Kansas to Oz. Her passion for being a waitress was more than just a job—it was her way of sharing kindness and a bit of magic. With every smile and every gesture, she brightened the days of her customers, who became more like companions on life’s
journey.  They came for a meal, but left with a piece of Connie’s heart, and her capacity to care seemed to know no bounds.

A passion for warm air and cool breezes, Connie felt most alive beneath the wide-open skies, where she found her own kind of Emerald City in nature’s beauty. Whether she was enjoying a peaceful rest in a lawn chair or pulling weeds from the garden the breeze would whisk away her worries like Dorothy’s house to Oz. She enjoyed soaking in the sun by the lake, always finding solace in the simple, wondrous moments of life. But her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her beloved grandchildren, who were her heart’s
home, her very own “Munchkins.” Their laughter filled her with pride, and she cherished every moment with them.

Connie is survived by her loving mother, Doris, and her siblings Donna (Dick), Alan (Yolanda), Rob, and Leslie (Josh)—each one a steadfast presence on her journey, much like Dorothy’s companions who never left her side. Her son Steve, daughter-in-law Amber, and their children Isabella, Saxton, Savannah, and Westley, whose places in her heart were as secure as the ruby slippers on Dorothy’s feet, will carry forward the memories of her love and devotion. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and two other beloved grandchildren. Connie was preceded in death by her father, Thomas, special friend Terry, and her son, Michael—loved ones whose memories she carried with her, as enduring and treasured as the yellow brick road itself.

We will come together to remember and celebrate Connie’s life at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St, Onalaska, on Friday, November 1st, with visitation beginning at 2 pm and a service at 3 pm with Pastor David Leistekow officiating. A luncheon will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church, where stories will be shared, and Connie’s beautiful spirit remembered. All whose lives she touched are invited to attend. Those who knew her know that while she may have followed her own rainbow to the other side, her laughter, love, and joy will forever echo in the hearts of those who were touched by her magic. In the end, Connie knew what we all come to learn—there truly is no place like home.

We are so sorry to hear of Connie’s passing. I will always remember our adventures on Harvey street, playing under the street lights. Our kick the tin can games will always be a wonderful memory of my childhood with the Staats family.

Our hearts are with you all,
    Barb(Ramey) and Dave Erickson
