Obituary

Dakota J. “Kody” Larson

December 5, 2023 | 11 comments

Kody Larson, 28, of Stoddard, Wisconsin passed away December 4, 2023, due to a Long QT Syndrome Type 2 cardiac arrest complicated by Covid.

Kody was born on March 28, 1995, to Tim and Jeanna Larson. Despite living in Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska, Stoddard was always home. After almost three years he became a big brother to his sister, Vanessa, whom he loved with all his heart. Despite their sibling banter he was fiercely protective of her.

Kody completed his entire school education in the De Soto School District. He graduated in 2013 a proud De Soto Pirate. Kody was an outstanding athlete. He played football, baseball, and basketball all four years in high school. The number of awards he received is too numerous to count. He was most proud to receive the “Co-Athlete of the Year” award beside his friend.

After graduation Kody attended RCTC in Rochester, Minnesota. He received his associate degree and then moved to Marshall, Minnesota to attend Southwestern Minnesota State University. He received his bachelor’s degree from SMSU. He played baseball at both schools and although his playing career was finished, he was not done with baseball. He moved to Decorah, Iowa and took an assistant position in the baseball program, and then moved to Wayne, Nebraska, where he was a graduate assistant with the baseball program while he pursued his MBA. In Wayne, he met a special young woman, Brittany. While Kody and Brittany were no longer together, she will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Kody also spent time in Peoria, Illinois with the Bradley baseball team as a volunteer coach. After Bradley he went back to Nebraska until he moved back home in September of 2022.

Ironically, having dreamed of coaching baseball as a career for many years, he made his way to Trane Company. He was so proud to call himself a 4 th generation Larson man to work at Trane and he loved the manual labor. He would come home at the end of the day dirty, exhausted, and proud, telling his Dad and Mom about what he accomplished that day. He was at work on Wednesday, November 29 th when his cardiac arrest happened. We will be forever grateful for those that helped Kody that day.

Kody leaves behind his mom and dad, Tim and Jeanna, his sister, Vanessa (Evan Babcock), his auntie Julie and uncle Phil Addis, their daughters Adia and Lila, his uncle Tiger Fogel (Al), his grandparents, Jerry and Barb Larson, their daughter Tammy, and her boys, Travis and Kyle. Also surviving Kody are three 3 rd cousins that were really his brothers, Weston, Mitchell, and BJ as well as his extended family and too many friends to count. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Sharon Fogel and Rodney (Butch) Fogel, several good friends, and some special pets.

We always knew our boy was special, but these past few days have shown us the impact he made in so many lives. Kody made the decision to be an organ donor and will help up to 75 people live better lives because of his selflessness.

Kody’s Celebration of Life will be at DeSoto High School on Saturday, December 16 th from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred, which the family will direct at a later date.

Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family at this time.

Kody was a great guy, and a great mentor in my early years of high school. Someone who was always joking around and having fun, but serious at the right times. Thinking of the Larson family during this difficult time!

My son played baseball with Kody at RCTC. He was a great player and fun to watch. One day he came to our home with our son and we got to know him better on a more personal level. He was such a nice kid!!! We really enjoyed spending time with him that day and talking to him at other games. You raised a kind, caring son who was a friend to many. I’m deeply saddened to hear this and am so sorry for your loss. Sending deepest sympathies to you and your family in this difficult time.

I have been searching for the right words to say, and it is impossible. I did not know Kody personally, but from what I read.. He was an awesome man.
Our children are not supposed to leave this earth before us. I hope your family finds comfort that he helped so many other people as an organ donor.
He will always be with you, not only in spirit.. But all the other lives he changed for the better.
My deepest sympathies, and there are a lot of people at work who care about you.
