David M. Peterson, 61, of La Crosse died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Tomah VA Medical Center after a long, hard battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Doris Peterson. He is survived by his children, Tony, Tonya and Troy Peterson; his sisters, Joanie Kersting, Carol Isensee-Peterson and Marcie Whitt; nieces and nephews, Cory, Scott, and Lisa Kersting, Annette (Isensee) Johnson, Mike  and Amanda Isensee and Jason Whitt; his eight grandchildren, Samantha, Nicholas, Wylie, Joshua, Richard, Joseph Erickson, Jenna and Madilyn; and many great nieces and nephews.

David served in the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971. After the Army, he married Holly (Olson) Kramer in 1972 and later divorced in 1999. In life, David loved to work on cars, listen to music and enjoyed being a grandpa. David was a born fighter and died a fighter. He was the Superman of the family, he also had a great personality and sense of humor. He will be missed for his strength, courage and go-getter attitude. He will be sadly missed by many. David’s family would like to give a special thank you to Amber McDonald and allt he staff at the medical center for their caring and compassion in David’s time of need.

A luncheon will be held beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the V.F.W., 630 Sixth St. S. Burial is at a later date
