David M. Quall

David M. Quall, 79, passed away March 12, 2026, at Bay Harbor Care Facility in La Crescent, Minnesota.

David was born in La Crosse, December 14, 1946, to Merlin Quall and Berdine (Thompson) Quall. David graduated from Holmen High School.

He was drafted into the Army in early 1968 and spent 16 months in Vietnam with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade from June 1968 to September 1969. He was honorably discharged with the rank of SP4 in September 1969. He was a 54-year member of the Holmen American Legion Post # 284.

David married Jane Tracey October 10, 1970, and they shared 48 years together until Jane passed away in September 2019. David loved to hunt and he and Jane loved spending time at the cabin and land in the town of Franklin.

David worked at the Holmen Feed Mill and Heilman’s Brewery, Gateway Foods, and the Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Tomah.

David is survived by a son,  Seth Quall of Viroqua, grandson, Sam Matter(Sam’s father Wayne) of La Crosse, step grandchildren, Liam Matter of La Crosse, and Skylar Matter of Rochester, Minnesota, sisters,  Debra (David) Bilskemper, Cindy (Wayne) Liethen, brothers-in-law, James Tracey (Kay) of Medford, Robert Tracy (Sandy) of Onalaska, Steven Tracey (Alyce) of Birchwood, Wisconsin, Sister, Anne Sawyer (Tim) of Melrose, and special friends, Jerry Clarkin (Debbie) of Onalaska.

David was preceded in death by his wife Jane, daughter Sarah, sister Cheryl Wallace, Sister-in-law Mary Sargent, and his parents Merlin and Berdine Quall.

The family would like to thank The Bay Harbor staff for the personalized care in making Dave feel at home, and St. Croix Hospice for the great care.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, April 10, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at The Holmen American Legion Post # 284. Donations may be made to the La Crosse County Humane Society.

Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
