Obituary
DeeAnn Dimmitt
It is with both deep sorrow and joyful celebration that the family of DeeAnn Dimmitt shares her passing on June 24, 2025.
DeeAnn began her life as the daughter of William H. “Bill” and Dorothy (Jordan) Niebaum in Sioux City, Iowa on July 2, 1941, where she shared a splendid childhood with her two sisters and three brothers, and where she met and married her lifetime love, Gary Dimmitt in 1959. They began to raise their four daughters in Sioux City and Ida Grove before moving to Onalaska Wisconsin in the early 1970’s.
DeeAnn took great pleasure in her family and was completely devoted and dedicated to raising and supporting each of them, and, along with Gary, creating homes of warmth, welcome, hard work, good times, and so much more! Being surrounded by them and creating traditions with them were her life’s greatest satisfactions!
DeeAnn found ways to serve her Methodist Church community with heart-filled charity, engaged whole-heartedly in her civic duty as a poll worker, shared meticulous abilities and built meaningful relationships in her workplaces, orchestrated magic during the Holidays and family events, and along with Gary, taught their daughters by example to live and work well.
Many people graced DeeAnn and Gary’s lives. Creating time with them was always such a treat! Those relationships mattered so much to her and all of us. Special times were shared and are remembered with great fondness and love. Family friends they shared time with boating, playing cards, going to Packer games and visiting with, were dear to both of them.
DeeAnn’s activities and relationships with people complemented her qualities of extraordinary caring and consideration deep and quiet intelligence, fierce family devotion, an exemplary work ethic, quiet humility, powerful perseverance, incredible creativity, and a giving and generous nature, translated into the truly wonderful life she relished. One we will miss sharing more of with her, but by her example, lead ours the same way.
Retirement for DeeAnn and Gary brought many travel adventures with family, her sisters, and friends that included a tour of Europe, train trips to the West Coast, a cruise to Alaska, trips to New York, New England, Nashville and the Blue Ridge mountains and more. A 50th wedding celebration was a terrific surprise gathering along Lake Pepin in 2009! What brought the couple most enjoyment were the trips others made to their home for treasured visits through the years and being with family at theirs.
DeeAnn lived alongside her illnesses these past two years with qualities carried throughout her lifetime – grace, courage, peace, dignity, humility, and giving. Gary’s desire to care for her at home was a promise fulfilled that was a tremendous gift to all of us.
Gary, DeeAnn, and family would like to convey their gratefulness. The Aveanna home healthcare team and St. Croix hospice team were counted on for their wonderful care, professionalism, compassion, attention and respectful consideration while they partnered with us during these past two years at home and transition to include the team at Hearten House Memory Care these last few months. All of them are unmatched!
And to all of you – phenomenal family and friends who sent encouraging and beautiful cards, visited, shared stories and memories, called with an upbeat and thoughtful word, paused with a thought of DeeAnn, and supported us in your special ways, please feel our tremendous gratitude.
DeeAnn’s much loved and cherished family includes: husband Gary, four daughters – Deb Guy & Dave Jackson, Lisa Dimmitt, Catherine Dimmitt & Jim Scheib, Jan & Phil Olson and three grandchildren – Bryanna Guy & Nate Polta, Dylan Guy & Jackie Duncan and Connor Every, sister Linda Phillips, brother-in-law Chuck, sister-in-law Dorothy (Niebaum) Coyle, brother Richard and sister-in-law Beverly Kneeland, brother Walter Niebaum, brother-and sister-in-law Bill & Laurie Dimmitt and DeeAnn’s many nieces, nephews.

Sending you all our love from Colorado. I have so many good memories growing up next door to your family… on the river, watching Packer games, and ice skating on the cow pond. So sorry for your loss. Peace be with your family.

To Gary, Debbie, Lisa, Cathy and Jan, and your families,
So very sorry on the loss of Dee Ann. She was a beautiful person both inside and out. Her smile, her laugh, the way she made you feel special. She created a lovely home that was welcoming and cozy. Right now her loss is difficult to believe but you can all appreciate that her suffering is over. Now she is free and back to being herself without pain or mental stress and fatigue. That gave me peace when my mom passed. I missed her but I was grateful she was out of her misery. I still talk to my mom and believe she is chuckling at lots of silly mistakes I make. May your memories and love keep her ever in your hearts. You all have my deepest condolences.
