Obituary
Donald Clyde Maricle
Donald Clyde Maricle age 79 of Waukon, Iowa, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on February 24, 2025 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Don was born September 11, 1945 in rural Oran, Iowa, the son of Clyde and Betty (Beu) Maricle. He graduated from Wapsie Valley High School and attended Upper Iowa University. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam in the 9th Infantry Division. Don married Jean Wright on June 6,1970 in Central City, Iowa. He worked at Sara Lee in New Hampton for several years. In 1981 Don and Jean purchased Four Winds resort on Kabetogama Lake, Minnesota, and operated that resort until their retirement in 2007. They lived in New Hampton until 2009 when they moved to rural Waukon where they resided until his passing. He was a sportsman and enjoyed his time on the lake fishing, hunting (especially trips to Wyoming with the Burk boys), mushroom hunting and gardening as well as baking and cooking (his pies were legendary and you didn’t want to get in his way in his kitchen!), trips to the casino and spending time with his granddaughters Lily and Lyla (who tolerated his bad jokes).
Don is survived by his wife, Jean Maricle of Waukon; son, Casey Maricle of Waterloo; daughter, Kelly Maricle of Grimes; brothers, Wayne Maricle and Steve (Janet) Maricle, all of Waterloo; granddaughters, Lily Maricle of Ames and Lyla Maricle of Waterloo; sisters-in-law, Janell (Doug) Shaffer and Vanessa (Bob) Beauregard, all of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Maricle; sister-in-law, Karen Zimmerman.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks for the care and compassion that the professionals at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse provided to Don and his family in his final weeks. Especially to the 6th floor Medical Oncology Unit and Surgical & Digestive Care Unit teams.
Memorials in Don’s name may be directed to the Gundersen Medical Foundation Nursing Education Fund.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
He was a good man spent many a day hunting with Don
