Obituary
Douglas “Doug” Eugene Eckelberg
Douglas “Doug” Eugene Eckelberg, 63, of La Crosse passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
Doug was born September 3rd, 1961, in Tomah, WI to Eugene (Gene) A. and Joann Eckelberg.
In his earlier years, Doug lent a helping hand on his family’s farm. After graduating from Luther High School in Onalaska, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served his country with honor from July 29th, 1980, to December 28th, 1984. His commitment and integrity earned him several distinctions, including the Good Conduct Medal and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon. After returning home, Doug held a variety of jobs before discovering his true passion for semi-truck driving in which he pursued until 2017. In the years that followed, Doug stayed busy through volunteer work and employment with Ace Hardware, the La Crosse Speedway, and Ashley Furniture, where he worked from 2017 until 2025.
Doug cherished time spent with his family and friends. You could always count on him for a helping hand. He found joy in fishing, catching movies at the theater (often followed by a call to his daughters with his review), traveling, and testing his luck at the casino. Doug will be remembered for his unique character, his signature look of shorts and sandals in the winter, and his commitment to wearing suspenders with any outfit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene (Gene) and Joann Eckelberg.
He is survived by his two daughters, Cassidy (Dakota) Eckelberg of West Salem and Abigail Eckelberg of Berlin; three grandchildren, Ellianna, Bennington, and Greyson; and three brothers, Curt (Kim) Eckelberg, Bruce (Dawn) Eckelberg, and David (Nancy) Eckelberg, all of West Salem.
In lieu of flowers, contributions toward funeral expenses are appreciated and may be sent, along with condolences, to the family at P.O. Box 62, Berlin WI, 54923. To honor Doug’s wishes, a private family burial will be held at a later date.
