Mindoro- Duane R. Rommel Sr., 68, died on October 12, 2011 at his home.

He was born on November 17, 1942 to William F. Rommel Sr. and Hazel (Tooley) Rommel. He married Jean M. Stanhope on January 27, 1962. Along with Jean’s daughter, Rhonda (Larry Davis), they had four children together. Tamara (Tom Volk) Woodard, John (Cindy Lannefeld) Rommel, Sherry Rommel and Duane (Cindy) Rommel Jr.

 

He is survived by his partner of 49 years, Jean, and 5 children, along with 3 sisters, Marion Stetzer, Lorretta Fennigkoh, Barbara Wyse, and many nieces and nephews. Also 10 grandchildren, Kim Aponte, and Ryan Davis, Roderick Woodard, Denasha and Kelcie Phinney, John Rommel Jr., Mellisa Dobrunz, Chanel Hall, Dawson and Josie Rommel, and 5 great-grandchildren, Riley Davis, Evelyn and Wyatt Aponte, Dejariana Burris and Amaree Murayire.

 

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Donald Rommel and William Rommel Jr., and 1 sister, Anita Evenson.

 

Duane was an iron worker for 25 years, working on bridges here in Wisconsin and surrounding states. He was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life, and he was happy to share those hobbies with his 2 sons and several grandsons. He enjoyed gatherings with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

 

Duane was very grateful for all the services Gundersen Lutheran Hospice provided, and his family would like to express their utmost appreciation for the care he received.

 

But he was particularly grateful for his 2 special care givers and all the T.L.C. they provided. His “Daisy and Little Buddy”.

 

There will be an open house Celebration of Life at the Melrose American Legion on Sunday, October 23^rd from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
