Elaine Edna Schmidt, 68 of Galesville, passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2025 with her daughter and son-in-law at her side.

Elaine was employed many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Being a caregiver brought her joy and happiness. Once she was no longer able to be a CNA, she volunteered at Marinuka Manor as an activities assistant for two years. When Elaine was not working, she enjoyed being home with her dogs and cats. Her favorite hobby was listening to polka music and attending local polka dances. The last few years she worked part-time in the deli at the River Stop Gas Station in Trempealeau.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Griffith and Hulda Leister, her brother Wayne Leister and her brother Mark Leister.

She is survived by her loving daughter Patsy (Ted) LaBarbara, her loving brothers Wally Leister, Allen (Debbie) Leister, Donny (Diane) Leister, her brother-in-law Mark Waldenberger and further survived by Nieces, Nephews and Friends.

The family would like to give a special thank you to St. Croix Hospice for all the love, care and support they showed to Elaine and her family during her brief time in hospice.

A memorial service will be held on Friday February 7^th at The Gathering Place, located at 133 Mason Street in Onalaska, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 11:00am-12:00pm. The memorial service will be held at 12:00pm. A luncheon to follow at 12:30pm. All family and friends are welcome.
