Elverna (Ellie) Stanhope Horstmann, 86, went to be with her Lord August 6, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Ellie was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in West Salem. She touched many lives caring for countless children over the years.

Ellie was born August 7, 1929 to Elsie Hall Stanhope Larson, father Ernest Stanhope (stepfather Edwin Larson). She married Harold Horstmann on July 11, 1953.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years; 4 children Johanna (Jeffery) Pralle, Debra (Paul) Stanhope, Connie Horstmann, Scott (Sandy) Horstmann; 5 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, 6 step great-grandchildren; sister Darlene Dahl, brother David (Carol) Stanhope; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Donald (Marlene) Horstmann, Sue Horstman, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ellie was preceded in death by 3 brothers, 2 sisters, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Graveside services will be held at 12 noon Wednesday, Aug. 10 at Christ Lutheran Cemetery, West Salem. Visitation will be at Christ Lutheran Church at 1 pm; service to follow at 2 pm. Pastor Galen Riediger will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Christ Lutheran Church or Luther High School.
