Gary “Luke” E. Turk

Gary “Luke” E. Turk 68 passed away in his home on Friday, April 10, 2015.

He was born July 26, 1946 in LaCrosse, WI to Freddie and Florence (Shepherd) Turk.  He grew up on the North Side of LaCrosse and graduated from Logan High School.  He married the love of his life, Marie “Lovee”, November 26, 1966.

He worked as a Project Supervisor, at the State of Wisconsin, Department of Transportation until retiring October 23,2003 after 37 years on the job. During that time, Gary took great pride in the construction of the many bridges that he supervised locally and throughout Wisconsin.  Gary was past Commander of American Legion Post 336, past member of the 40/8, member of the Onalaska Jaycees, and proud member of the United States Navy and Navy Reserves.

In his retirement, Gary enjoyed spending his mornings with his good friends on the Golf Course, and having an Old Style Light at the American Legion. Go Pack Go!

He is survived by his wife, Marie A. (Kirchner) Turk of Onalaska, WI, his son Jarrod (Mary) Turk of Onalaska, Wisconsin, two daughters, Laura (Brian) Tulius of LaCrosse, WI, and Heather Nisely of Midwest City, OK; six grandchildren, Ethan Turk, Kaycie Turk, Lindsey Turk (fiancé Johnathan Medinger), Alec Tulius, Khalil Nisely, and Jordan Nisely; one great-granddaughter Nevaeh Medinger; three brothers, Roger (Diane) Turk of Oceanside Calif., David (Ann) Turk of Onalaska, WI, Robert (Sue) Turk of Lacrosse, WI; three sisters Marilyn (Kenneth) Hermann of Onalaska, WI, Sandra (Jerry) Kern of Green Bay, WI, and Susan (John) McDonald of Mansfield, TX; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He is proceeded in death by his parents.

The family would also like to thank St. Jude Hospice for the care they provided.

As Gary would say, “Wake up with a smile on your face, and a song in your heart”.

A memorial service will be held at  6 p.m. Tuesday April 14, 2015, at Coulee Region Cremation Group and Funeral Home, 133 Mason Street Onalaska, WI 54650. Rev. Ted Dewald will officiate. Military honors will be performed by the Onalaska American Legion Post 336. A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00pm at the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial will be held at a later date.
