Georgianna Lucille (Sobek) Childs, 97, of Gays Mills passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013 at The Bethel Home in Viroqua. Georgianna was born July 1, 1915 on a farm near Muscoda, WI to Charles and Lorna (Chitwood) Sobek.

Georgianna Sobek married Karl Childs on October 2, 1933 in Galena, IL. They had three children: Colleen, Ken, and Charlane. Together, Georgianna and Karl farmed several farms in Richland and Crawford Counties before moving to the Company Farm, where they farmed until their retirement. Upon retiring, Georgie and Karl went on many trips. They enjoyed traveling and took many car and bus trips to the Western and Southwestern United States. They also traveled overseas to Scotland, England, Italy, and Israel. Also after retirement, Georgianna and Karl purchased a home in Pharr, TX where they would spend the winters; returning to their Wisconsin farm home each spring. After Karl’s death in 1986, Georgianna continued returning to Pharr each winter.

Georgianna enjoyed visitors in her home and always opened her door to family and friends. Her hot lemonades, sweet salad, and fresh bread will be remembered by many. She had an endless love for animals, especially birds and dogs. Over the years, she brewed hummingbird food daily during the summer for her hundreds of hummingbirds and cared greatly for three dogs: Pepper, Peppie I, and Peppie II. She enjoyed reading and watching westerns, comedies, and musicals as well.

She is survived by children: Ken of Soldiers Grove, WI, Charlane Dicks of Carefree, AZ, and son-in-law Mel Yoho of Las Vegas, NM; grandchildren Valerie Hayden of Las Vegas NM, Celeste (Ole) Torgersen of Cross Plains, TN, Mark (Lisa) Childs of Mazomanie, Kyle (Karen) Childs of Gays Mills, Lisa and Ellen Malmquist. She was blessed with great grandchildren: Allison, Marcie, and Jared – children of Kyle and Karen Childs; Olivia, Adam, Gwen, and Gavin – children of Mark & Lisa Childs; Torger – son of Celeste and Ole Torgersen; Casey and Cole Hayden –sons of Blane Hayden. She was even further blessed with one great great grandson, Carter Emler, son of Allison Childs.

Georgianna was preceded in death by her husband Karl, parents, daughter Colleen Yoho, daughter in law Maggie Childs, brothers Jim and Bert Sobek, sister Josephine McKnight, sisters in law Evelyn and Dottie Sobek, brother in law Howard McKnight, and grandsons Craig and Blane Hayden.

Services for Georgianna will be held Saturday, April 27, 2013 at The United Methodist Church located at 201 Pine Street in Soldiers Grove, WI. There will be a visitation from 9:30 to 10:15 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am. After the funeral service and a lunch there will be a grave side service at the Haney Ridge cemetery.
