Harold Stuart Smith
Harold Stuart Smith age 78, of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on Sept. 27, 2023 at home in Holmen, WI surrounded by his family. He was born Nov. 3, 1944 to Lester and Juanita Smith. He married Judy Stoeckly on Sept. 11, 1965 in La Crosse, WI.
After graduation, he served in the US Army from 1965 to 1968. He went to work for Burlington Railroad for 36 years, where he later retired.
He had a love for Nascar racing and the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed getting together with family, camping at Jellystone, and spending time out on his boat. He took pride in his yard work and enjoyed spending time outside. Most of all, he treasured his time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He is survived by his lovely and devoted wife, Judy; son, Todd (Mary) Smith, Joseph (Rebecca) Smith, Richard (Natalie) Smith; grandchildren, Addyson, Samuel, Chase, Jacob and Raygen, Maddie, Chloe; sisters, Juanita Goldbeck & Gloria (Don) Kelly; Sister-in-laws, Carol Dahl, Mary (Don) Clements, Patty (Dave) Post, Linda Shepherd, Sue Stoeckly, Diane Stoeckly, brother-in-laws, Don (Diane) Stoeckly and David (Jini) Stoeckly; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his father and mother, Lester and Juanita Smith, brothers, Stanley (Phyllis) Ernie, David, Melvin, Gilbert, Ronald, Donald Smith, sister, Lois Faas, and grandson, Andrew Mote.
The family would like to thank the Gundersen Health System Hospice team for the care they provided.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Onalaska. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass at the church. Interment with military honors will be held at Green Mound Cemetery.

It is with great sympathy to Judy and their sons and Daughter in laws as well as his Grandchildren that we respectfully are saddened by his Passing. Harold was a good friend of our family and was here to help everyone with his skills while he was physically able to.

What a great guy to work with. I always tried to catch him outside mowing the grass to talk. We always had some great laughs together.
