James “Bert” F. Seeger of Sparta passed away at Tomah Hospice Serenity House after a battle with lung cancer. He was born June 21, 1956, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Elmer and Evelyn Seeger.

After many years working in diary equipment repair and sales, which included working alongside his father, James opened Seeger Surge in 1991. He dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the business until the early 2000s when he then transitioned to a role as a dairy robotic technician at Preston’s and Seehafer’s. His exceptional expertise and unwavering commitment to his craft quickly established him as a revered technician. His remarkable ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex repairs over the phone earned him a reputation as an expert in the industry.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, James served as a dedicated member of the West Salem Fire Department for 25 years, ultimately rising to the esteemed position of assistant chief. His leadership and courage earned him deep respect within the community.

James was also known for his handyman skills around the home. Friends and family often turned to him for assistance, knowing they could rely on his readiness to lend a helping hand. His warm spirit and willingness to help made him a cherished figure in the lives of many.

In 2003, he married the love of his life, Teresa Nuttelman. They were married for 16 years before she preceded him in death on February 24, 2020. They enjoyed many years living in Barre Mills at their home, Dry Creek Haven. Together, they shared pride and joy in their expansive garden, endless projects and hobbies, time spent with family, and had many vacations filled with laughter and adventure.

James is survived by his daughter, Mallory Seeger (Corey Lemke) of Seymour, Wisconsin; his stepdaughters, Mathea Gray (Paul Norby) of Fitchburg, Wisconsin and Sue Goodrich of Holmen, Wisconsin; and three grandchildren, Harrison Goodrich, Mayven Norby, and Weslyn Lemke, who brought him immense joy. He leaves behind his beloved siblings, Dennis of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and David (Kim), Donna (Brad) Monson, Maryrose (Jon) Hetland, Ron (Kris), and Jerry (Janice), all of West Salem—along with many cherished nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

In addition to his wife, James was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Elmer, and his sister, Janice Thompson.

The family would like to thank the Gundersen Lutheran Hospice and Quality Comfort Care teams for their compassionate care during James’s time at home. Their dedication allowed him to spend his final days with dignity. A heartfelt thank you is also extended to Tomah Hospice Serenity House for the exceptional support and kindness given to James and his entire family during his last days. James’s legacy of hard work, dedication to family, and caring for his community will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, July 10, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street Onalaska, WI.

Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family at this time.
