Obituary

James Gordon Gonyo

James G Gonyo, age 75, passed away at Lakeview Nursing Home in West Salem, Wi. Surrounded by his family.

He was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on May 30, 1936 to George M and Helen (Piechowski) Gonyo. He graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1954. He was united in marriage on September 15, 1956, to Patricia Ann Hayes for 25 years.

He was a graduate of Beloit School of X-Ray technology, Beloit, Wisconsin. His first job was in the Chilton hospital in Chilton, Wi. He worked for Gunderson Clinic of LaCrosse, Wi., from 1957 to 1979 as a Radiology Technologist. He then went on to sales of medical equipment throughout the Midwest.

He is survived by his four children, Julie (David) Harter, Onalaska, WI., Jim P Gonyo, Beldenville, Wi., Jane (Joe) Kroll, Beldenville, Wi., Jennifer Peterson (Dave Mickelson) of LaCrosse, Wi. Further survived by 15 grandchildren, Melissa (Jeff) Fedor, Mandy, Amy (Justin) Peterson, John (Amanda Stellflue), Samantha and Charlie Harter, Kirstin and Joe Gonyo, Jeremy and Charlotte Gonyo, Travis and Alexandra Kroll, Eric Austin and Sophia Peterson. Four great grandchildren, Lila Ann and Andrew John Fedor, Eleanor Peterson, and Alex James Harter. Further survived by his sisters, Barbara (Dave) Reabe, Oshkosh, Wi., Mary Jo (Bob) Hinderman, Omro, Wi., and a brother Jerry (Darlene) Gonyo, of Scottsdale, Az. Also a daughter-in-law Sharon Gonyo of LaCrosse,Wi. Ex-wife Sharon Offerdahl, (Az.) Good friend Judy Loker of Oshkosh, Wi. Uncles Newell Gonyo of Milwaukee, Wi. and William Gonyo of Oshkosh, Wi. Many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends in the Oshkosh area.

He was preceeded in death by his parents, sister Doris Ann, former wife Patricia Gonyo, Son Jonathan and grandson Alex Harter.

He enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, cards, casinos, traveling and grilling out.  Remembering special dogs, Winston and Teddy Bear.

He was a member of Oshkosh Elks Lodge 292. When there was any kind of crisis he had the ability to always remain calm. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be established to Area Humane Societies and homeless shelters.

Per Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation but on Friday, July 15, 2011, family will greet family and friends from noon to 3:00 PM at Oak Grove Cemetery Chapel, 1407 La Crosse St., La Crosse Wi. and a graveside service on Saturday, July 16, 2011,at 11:00 am with Father Joe Mattern, which will be at Riverside Cemetery, 1901 Algoma Blvd, Oshkosh, Wi. Immediately following the family will greet family and friends at the Elks Club at 175 W Fernau Ave., Oshkosh, Wi.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to Lakeview Nursing Home Cedar Lane/Northwood Wing, for taking such good care of Jim during his stay there. Coulee Region Cremation Group of La Crosse is assisting the family.
