Obituary

Janice Kay Boldt

September 14, 2023

Janice’s Christian journey began with her baptism at South Ridge Evangelical United Brethren/ United Methodist Church. She was active in Sunday School, Bible School, youth group, and choir. She was confirmed and received into membership in the family church of several generations.

She began her education at Loretta Country School and graduated from Houston High School in 1967 where she was a member of the band – playing the French horn. She was known by the teachers for her “always neat” appearance and “whiter than white blouses.” Being a farm girl, she learned to drive tractors, milk cows, and assist her parents as needed.

Following high school, she attended Cosmetology school at Western Technical College but due to a back issue, she was unable to stand for long periods of time and only used her cosmetology skills for family and close friends. She had several secretarial positions including Ace Telephone, Barge Clinic, Gunderson Clinic, and a position in Beloit, Wisconsin.

In the early 1980’s she moved back home to help her dad, Herb, care for her mother, Hazel, due to her declining health and eventual passing in 1983. In 1985 Janice and Herb moved to La Crescent where she cared for him until his passing in 1990. It was during this time that she pursued and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. While living in La Crescent she also cared for her special uncle, Sidney Boldt, until his passing in 1998. After his passing, she moved to Onalaska and became a substitute teacher for Holmen Public Elementary School. This was probably her favorite job of all.

She attended the Bethany Church, La Crosse, Wisconsin for many years as well as other churches in the area.     She had a heart for the elderly, the less fortunate and did many volunteer services. She was also an accomplished pianist, but only played for her family and special friends. Prior to her declining health she was a fantastic cook and enjoyed holiday baking and hosting holiday parties. Her festive Christmas parties with a beautiful Christmas Tree surrounded by an extensive Christmas village collection and model train circling the tree were always very special.

Janice died suddenly on September 9, 2023, at the Mulder Nursing Home, West Salem, Wisconsin, following what is believed to have been a severe stroke. She was born April 2, 1949 to Herbert and Hazel Beckman Boldt at La Crosse, Wisconsin. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert 1909-1990 and Hazel 1914-1983; her sister Joanne Boldt Palmer 1939-2017; brother-in-law Robert Palmer 1935-2015; and special uncle Sidney Boldt 1916-1998.

She is survived by her nephew Rob (Shelia) Palmer of Bryant, Wisconsin; niece Renee Palmer Tucker of Ft. Meyers, Florida; and special Goddaughter, Angela Rundhaugen.

A memorial service will be scheduled on Saturday, May 18th, 2024, 1:00 p.m, At the South Ridge United Methodist Church with burial to follow with internment at the Hillcrest Cemetery. The family requested that all Memorials may be given to your local Humane Society or Salvation Army.
