October 12, 2015 | 1 comment

Jeanette A. Olson, 95, of La Crosse, WI passed away peacefully on October 10, 2015 at Hillview Healthcare Center. She was born in La Crosse on June 16, 1920 to Bert and Viola (Joseph) Collins, of La Crosse. She married Robert A. Olson on September 6, 1941.

Raised on La Crosse’s Northside, Jeanette frequently reminisced about her youth with her family there and she earned the honor of salutatorian of her Logan High School graduating class. In her early adult years, Jeanette was a bookkeeper at Spence McCord Drug Co. and later a secretary for the Laborer’s Union, both in La Crosse.

Robert and Jeanette traveled in their middle years, including winter trips to warm climates, as well as going on several cruises. Jeanette also enjoyed golfing for many years, a game in which she once made a “hole-in-one” at the Hillview Golf Course. She was a very avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge, which she played with skill and passion. She also followed current events and politics very closely.

Jeanette is survived by a daughter, Susan J. (Jeffrey) Schroeder; a son, Robert G. Olson; 3 grandchildren, Scott (Jenny) Schroeder of Cannon Falls, MN, Molly Mathison (Matt Langreck) of Holmen, WI, and Emily Olson of Winona, MN; as well as 6 great-grandchildren.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert; 3 brothers, Loren “Tiny” (Doris) Collins, Gifford (Rita) Collins, Francis “Clyde” (Ruth) Collins; a sister, Audrey (Howard) Lemke; and a granddaughter, Sarah Schroeder.

A special thanks to the caring, professional staff on the 500 Wing at Hillview.

A private remembrance will be conducted and Jeanette’s remains will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Robert, at Woodlawn Mausoleum in La Crosse. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
