Jeanette Lavon Thach
Jeanette Lavon Thach, 60, passed away on January 30, 2026, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Born on January 17, 1966, in Reno, Nevada, Jeanette—known affectionately to many as Jeannie—lived a life filled with warmth, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys that brought people together.
A proud graduate of Holmen High School’s Class of 1984, Jeannie remained rooted in her community throughout her life. Her vibrant personality and love for shared experiences made her a cherished presence among those who knew her. She went on to build a dedicated career with Go Riteway Bus Company, where she worked for ten years. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her enthusiasm for life outside of it.
A spirited fan of the Green Bay Packers, Jeannie could often be found at Champions Sports Bar cheering on her team with friends. Weekends were especially meaningful to her, she cherished camping and bonfires that brought loved ones together under the stars. Her love for community and celebration extended to the racetrack in La Crosse, where she proudly supported her brother Rob and nephew Christopher. Helping plan their smoker events became a tradition she eagerly anticipated each year.
Jeannie also had a playful sense of adventure that shone through during her beloved “pool tours,” where she explored various local pools with friends. These outings were more than just a way to cool off—they were opportunities for connection and laughter that reflected her vibrant spirit.
Jeanette’s family was central to her life. She is survived by her daughter Kelsea Bingham; parents Robert Thach and Elaine Schickowski; siblings Annette Kujak (Steve), Robert Christen, Ronald Christen, Ashley Schickowski, Christina Schickowski, Octavia Schickowski, Robert Wright, and Adam Thach; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews including Justin Christen, Corey Christen, Cullyen Christen, Christopher Christen, Kaylee Christen, Karl Kujak (Margaret), Kayla Som (Zachary), Kameron Kujak, Azariah Harris and Quincy Harris.
She also leaves behind a large extended family who held special places in her heart: aunts Linda Lindly, Paulette Kelly, Linda Sallmen; aunt and uncle Ronald & Cris Sallmen; cousins Kelly Todd (Patrick), Kevin Sallmen, Kyle Sallmen (Jill); and dear friends Diane Bendel, Danielle Phillips and Michael Wohlfert. Her loyal pets—dogs Nellie and Lily and cat Luna—were constant companions who brought comfort and joy to her daily life.
Jeanette was preceded in death by her grandparents Karl and Jeanette Sallmen and Richard and Ivy Dixon; uncle Arthur Sallmen; and stepfather Dale Schickowski.
Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched with her warmth, humor, and unwavering support. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her. A memorial service will be held Friday, February 06, 2026, 4:30 p.m.at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St. Onalaska, Pastor Andrew Buhrow, officiating. Friends may call from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family during this difficult time.
