Jeffrey A. Reed

July 23, 2024 | 5 comments

On Monday, July 22, 2024, Jeffrey A. Reed, 66, of Sparta, WI passed away unexpectedly at Gundersen Lutheran surrounded by his family.

Jeff was born on July 4th, 1958 to Ron and Carol Reed. He grew up in Barre Mills, WI and graduated from West Salem High School in 1976. Later on in life, he met his wife Lynne and they were married on September 24, 1983. They lived in Rockland, WI until they built their dream home in 1996 in Sparta, WI where they raised their two children, Shaylyn & Michael. Jeff retired from Trane Company after working there for 34 years and spent several years volunteering for the Bangor-Burns Fire department – which he was very proud of.

After retirement, Jeff spent most of his time outdoors. He was a very hardworking man that liked to keep himself busy. He dedicated a lot of his time tending to their hosta gardens, cutting wood, and fixing things up around the house.

Jeff was a devoted husband, father, and uncle who cared for and loved his family deeply. He often times took his children, nieces, and nephews fishing, out on the boat, and camping when they were young. Jeff was very proud to be a father to his children and loved them very much. He liked to crack jokes with them, make them laugh, but was also the father they could go to for advice and someone they could lean on for support. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan and also enjoyed watching the Sunday NASCAR races with his wife.

Jeff will be remembered for being the guy you could count on for anything, for his kindness, and for his knowledge – because he knew everything! He always had an answer no matter the question.

Jeff is survived by his wife: Lynne Reed, his children: Shaylyn Reed and Michael Reed, his father: Ron Reed, his brother: Tim Reed, his grandsons: Aidan Schwier and Ethan Schwier, his in laws: Kathy (Tim) Beron, Richard (Mary Jo) Eggen, Dennis Eggen, and several nieces and nephews.  Jeff also had a beloved dog named Cali that was his baby. She was always by his side and would lay in his lap when he was kicked back in his recliner.

Jeff is preceded in death by his mother: Carol Reed, his daughter: Tina Schwier, his sister-in-law, Kelly Eggen, brother in laws: Michael Eggen and Terry Eggen, and his grandparents.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2pm to 4pm at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St., Onalaska, WI, on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

Rest in peace “Christmas Tree Guy”. Met Jeff years ago when purchasing hostas from him. He had a grove of tall balsam Christmas trees growing by his driveway and agreed to let me cut one for our home. This turned into an annual event for about the last ten years until we both agreed last year would be the last cut. Every year when the boys and I went out to cut a tree Jeff and I would talk hunting, fishing and trapping while the boys loaded up. Sure enjoyed those visits.
