JoAnn Duckworth (nee Schultz), 77, of Holmen, Wisconsin, passed away on October 28, 2023. She was born on February 4, 1946, to Henry “Hank” & Esther Schultz (nee Pyka) and throughout her life was adored as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all.

JoAnn is survived by her loving husband of nearly 43 years, Dennis “Hop” Duckworth, and her children Tracy (Mayer) Schultz, Matt (Nicole) Schultz, Mary (Doug Kruschke) Duckworth, Jon (Melissa) Duckworth, and Andrew (Katie) Duckworth. She leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, her father, her sister, Mary Chevalier, and her daughter, Tami Schultz.

JoAnn attended Blair High School and persevered to finish her teaching degree later in life at UW-La Crosse. She had an incredible work ethic and spent much of her career as co-owner and operator of several small businesses, including The Book Trader II and The Mad Duck Resale Shop. JoAnn was also an instructor at WWTC for many years, where she taught the disappearing art of chair caning.

JoAnn was a life-long learner, book reader, avid collector, lover of horses, and best gift-giver. She had a special place in her heart for those who were lonely and needed a friend and never said no to helping. A celebration honoring the life of JoAnn Duckworth will be held on Sunday, November 5th from 2-4 p.m. at the Onalaska Community Center.

JoAnn will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched with her kindness, creativity, and love for learning.

I remember JoAnn from her time teaching caning in the Lifelong Learning Division at Western. She was a fabulous instructor! I attended her class and think of her whenever I sit in the chair I caned with her assistance. Rest in peace JoAnn!
