John Max Ross Jr. “Little John”
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Max Ross Jr. “Little John”, age 77, of La Crosse, Wisconsin on November 10, 2024. A Vietnam Veteran, a beloved family member and friend to all, John lived a life full of love, laughter, and hard work, leaving behind a legacy of memories with family and friends that will never be forgotten.
Though he has left this world John’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his loving wife Alice Ross, children Ed Ross (Sara Holly) and Heidi Ross, grandchildren Kyle Lockington, Ahnna Lockington, and Howie Ross, and his siblings Elsbeth Bromberg, Ike Ross, and Betsy Oestreicher and a wide circle of friends who will cherish his memory forever. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Betty Ross, siblings Stuart Ross, Sue Swan and Sally Ross, and grandchild Romie Ross.
John was a man who could never be defined by a single word. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose kindness and generosity knew no bounds. His family and friends were the center of his world, and he found joy in the simple pleasures of life — especially spending time with those he loved.
One of his greatest passions was fishing. He found peace and joy in the quiet moments spent by the water as well as sharing stories with friends on the shore. He had an incredible gift of making friends wherever he went and was known for never meeting a stranger. His warmth, humor, and kindness made him a constant presence in the lives of countless people.
As a life-long and proud monument engraver he was a hard worker until the very end, John took great pride in his work and was always there to lend a hand when needed. His dedication and strong work ethic were admired by all who knew him, and he continued to work tirelessly to provide for his family and support his community throughout his life.
Though he has left this world, John’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know him.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held Thursday, November 21, 2024, 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St. Onalaska, WI. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity or cause in his honor.

John was a breakfast friend of mine. We greeted each other in the morning. He always sat near me and played on one of the machines. I always liked his hat with the fishing lures on it and asked if it was a good day to out fishing. I will miss seeing him there. From Carole Stedt
May you rest in peace Little John….you will be missed by many.
