Obituary

Judith Ann Niedfeldt

April 20, 2023 | 13 comments

Judith Ann (Huber) Niedfeldt, 82, of La Crosse, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2023, with her children by her side.

She was born to George Henry & Gladys Viola Huber at St. Anne’s Hospital, in La Crosse, WI.

In Judie’s early years, she grew up on the Northside of La Crosse with 8 siblings (4 brothers & 4 sisters). Judie went to St John’s Catholic School & then on to Aquinas High School. She graduated in 1958. During high school, Judie worked at St Francis Hospital. She was always so kind to patients and always a good worker.

After high school, Judie (probably) wanted a “taste of the BIG city…. St. Paul, MN), so she moved there with some girlfriends. She worked in banking in St Paul and loved it!

She married Robert F. Niedfeldt in 1966, in La Crosse, WI and they moved to Waterloo, IA and later divorced.

After moving back to La Crosse, with the kids, Judie worked a variety of jobs, including a local waste management company, retail store, banking, and finally retiring from La Crosse Plumbing Supply. After retiring from La Crosse Plumbing Supply, mom worked in Home Health Care and loved working with her clients. She was involved in activities at St Pius X Church (in the 1970’s-1980’s), such as choir & CCD, and volunteered for anything that came along

Judie was a beloved mother first, and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as a grandmother and great- grandmother. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. Her smile was amazing!

Judie was defiantly a strong woman and survivor, as she endured a tough Northside La Crosse upbringing, health issues, marriage & divorce, losing a child, raising 2 children on her own, and more.

Judie is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth, son, Michael (Jamie). Her grandchildren, Samantha Niedfeldt, Cruz Niedfeldt, Carver Niedfeldt, Summer Niedfeldt, and Great- Granddaughter, Taaliyah Niedfeldt. Her brother Mike (Shirley) Huber. Cousins Pat (Dick) Krause and numerous nieces & nephews and friends.

Preceeding Judie in death: Son (Douglas), Parents (George & Gladys Huber), Grandsons (Reznor & Beck Niedfeldt), Siblings (Dick, Joe, Steve, Donna, Marge, Mary, Rosemary) & their spouses. Special friends/grandparents to the children: Fred & Florence Niedfeldt.

We want to thank: Bethany Riverside Transitional Care and ALL the staff that cared for mom during her years living there, Roxanne Grosskopf, NP (Mayo Healthcare System), who cared for mom the last 5 years and was there on the day of her death, Doctors Erin Morcomb & Cheri

Olson, who cared for mom over the years, Fr. Jim W. & St Elizabeth’s Church (Holmen), and the Outreach Ministry for always sending cards, and La Crosse Coulee Cremation Group, for helping with the memorial services.

Please join us in celebrating her life on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Visitation will be held from 10- 11am, with funeral services to follow at 11:00 a.m. at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St., Onalaska.  Father Jim Weighner will officate of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the following in her honor:

Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society, Coulee Region Humane Society, Mayo Clinic Healthcare System Foundation, Bethany Riverside Transitional Care (EagleCrest Communities), or a charity of your choice.

“What did that crazy October do today?” Mom would say.

“When you were born… you cried, and the world rejoined. Live your life so that when you die… the world cries, and you rejoice!” ~ Unknown

Elizabeth, I am so sorry about the passing of your mom. She sounds like she was a joyful, strong survivor, much like you. Your resemblance to your mom is amazing. That “When you were born…..” phrase is beautiful. Hope you find peace and love in remembering your mom. I’m sure she was so proud of you as a daughter, mother and grandmother.

I have many nice memories of Judy, especially when her children were in school with some of our crew. I always enjoyed her sense of humor and friendly personality. You two children took such good care of her as her health problems appeared. She dearly loved all of her family. May she rest in great peace.

Beth and Mike you are in my thoughts and prayers. Judy was so sweet to me at LaCrosse Plumbing. We had lots of fun in the lunch room and she always asked if I wanted a piece of toast with peanut butter on our breaks. She always had a smile. I’m so sad I didn’t see your obit Judy since I don’t get the paper. I would have come to your funeral if I knew. I’m so sorry Beth and Mike. R.I.P. Judy
