Obituary
Julie D. Hammes
Julie D. Hammes, 77, passed away at home with her husband and family at her side on July 31, 2024. A Cardinal appeared one hour later to inform family she was no longer in pain, that everything was ok, and she was in Heaven. Julie was born September 26, 1946 to Leonard and Klis Hobbs Davis. She was raised in Preston, Idaho by her grandparents, Alfred and Veda Hobbs. She met her husband Danny in 1969 when he spent the summer in Salt Lake City. He stole her heart on a trucking trip to California in 1983 and they married in 1986 living in Holmen, WI.
While Danny was busy trucking as an Independent/Owner Operator, Julie was busy building dollhouses. And building she did. She built an entire town which was broadcast on television and she opened her home to “Parade of Homes” during a Christmas Season years ago for others to see. In total she built 27 different structures, including houses, a church, old schoolhouse, ice cream parlor, Santa’s workshop, a farm, a saloon and many more. Everyone knew what to get her for birthdays and Christmas. She had electricity with lights and everything so small and tiny that would be in a present-day home. It would take an entire year to build each structure.
Julie fell ill with a “thyroid storm” in 2016 and the next eight years her health was compromised.
Julie is survived by her husband Danny, children, Brenda (Barry) Egolf of Taylorsville, Utah, Michael (Darci) Thompson of North Bend, Wisconsin, brother, Leonard Davis of Bountiful, Utah, daughter-in-law, Michelle Thompson from Grantsville, Utah, ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, also, many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank a special niece, one Julie would sometimes call her a second daughter. Susan Davis was very close to Julie the last ten years and helped Julie get through some difficult times.
Julie was preceded in death by her parents, son Travis Thompson, brother Bruce Davis, sisters-in-law, Linda and Norma Davis and grandchild, Candice Egolf McCray.
Julie’s wishes were to be buried in the town she was born and raised in, Preston, Idaho. A graveside service will be held at Preston Cemetery on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family at this time.
So sorry for your loss. She was a special lady.
thank you for being my and my family’s biggest supporter. You were such a bright light in everyone’s lives spreading all the love you could.
I know that your safe with dad and that he probably gave you the biggest hug.
If there’s one thing that you taught me it’s that your never alone because you’ll always have family to lift you up, and to always be kind to others, you have a grace that I will never have but will always look up to.
you started my art journey with your love of creating miniatures and houses. Playing with that doll house kit you got me was what started my art journey and my love of sculpting new miniatures.
Brenda & Barry and family, wishing you peace at this time. Our condolences.

I loved Julie with all of my heart and wish we could have lived closer. She was my favorite cousin but I’m not sure why! She was 6 yrs older than me but love to tease me more than my own brother! She ALWAYS WAS SMILING AND LAUGHING when I was with her! I’ll see her on the other side!
