Obituary

Kayla Beth Malli

June 30, 2025 | 11 comments

Kayla Beth Malli, 32, of Madison, WI, passed away unexpectedly at her home on June 21, 2025.

Kayla was born on February 21, 1993, in La Crosse, WI to Mark Malli and Kerri Stoner McDowell. Kayla was one of the purest, most emphatic, noisiest (if you know, you know) souls you could ever meet. She was full of giggles mostly when she or someone else was getting into trouble. Kayla was always unabashedly obsessed with her newest favorite items like her stuffed black cats and large collection of sleeping bags. After graduating from Monona Grove High School Kayla enjoyed getting out in the community with her different jobs and meeting new friends.

Survivors include her parents, Marc & Kerri (Stoner) McDowell; her brothers, Luke Malli, Garrett Bartley and Ryan McDowell; along with her grandparents, Don & Mary Stoner; grandma, “Sandy”, the “boogeyman” (Larry McDowell), as well as her big extended family of uncles, aunts and cousins. Kayla will always be loved by family on both sides of eternity. Until we see her again, we know that she will live every moment loved by Jesus.

There will be a celebration of Kayla’s life that will be held on Saturday July 19th with visitation starting at 11am and a small service at 12pm with a light lunch to follow. It will be held at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St. Onalaska, WI.

Condolences may be made sent to the family by visiting CouleeCremation.com.

I knew Kayla through her grandmother, Mary Stoner, who loved her every minute of each passing day. I will miss hearing of her latest adventures. May all who knew and loved her be comforted by the many wonderful memories you all share.

Kayla was a ray of light when I worked with her at WORC, she made my days so much fun. We still talk about Kayla to this day, we have 3 Labrador retrievers and when they are doing something they shouldn’t be we tell them to cancel it and make the noise that Kayla used to make when we asked her to cancel something. She will be greatly missed, hoping you can find comfort during these difficult times.

Having just lost our son-in-law I know some of the pain you’re all feeling. I pray in time you all find some place where you can think of her for all the light she brought to your lives and feel peace rather than despair.

I’ve been friends with Kayla’s grandma Mary for almost 30 years. We’ve been there through a lot of growth, laughter, tears and loss. This one really hurts. Mary and family, I know nothing I can say truly helps, but my heart is full of gratitude that Kayla brought you into my life and that her very existence carries on by those connections we made. I’m deeply sorry for your loss.

Kayla worked with us at the RISE UP, Inc. office, she started on 11/1/2018 helping us with various light clerical tasks. We looked forward to her coming in to help us, and even though shredding was not her favorite task, she graciously helped us keep up on this task. We all miss her and send our condolences to her family, vocational staff and caregivers~we are very sorry for your loss.
