Obituary

Kurt W. Bluske

December 22, 2023 | 39 comments

Dang it, I knew this day would come. Guess what, at age 85 I just left on my last road trip on December 21, 2023. I left with no GPS, no Google Maps and no paper map. I am not real sure where I am going or what it will be like when I get there, I guess you could call it the ultimate road trip. When I get to a fork in the road, I hope there will be someone with Godly wisdom that points me in the right direction. Hopefully my destination will have great weather, beautiful scenery, great hotels and fabulous food and drinks. On the other hand, it could be very hot and desolate place and could involve a stay at Motel Hell. I guess I won’t know until I get there but I’m hoping for the best.

I was blessed with a beautiful, terrific wife, Sharon (La Point) Bluske. She left on her last road trip in 2008 after 51 years of marriage and I’m sure she will be there to welcome me when I arrive at my final destination. I also hope to see the many friends who have traveled the same road that I am now on. My journey through life was like the majority of people on this earth. Like everyone else I was born, grew up, got some education, got married, had kids, had some jobs, worked hard, and retired.

Specifically, I attended Central High School and graduated from the UW-La Crosse. I worked at a few companies before I retired as the Production and Inventory Control Manager from TRW Automotive. I absolutely loved photography, traveling, music, neighborhood bars, good whiskey, casino trips and I just loved pulling a great practical joke. Of course, like most people from Wisconsin, I was an avid fan of the Packers, Bucks and the Badgers.

Sharon and I had three children, who are either retired or close to retirement. Sadly, they are now orphaned, poor things! Our children are Michael (Kate Coklin) Bluske of Prescott, AZ, Kathy Kruse of La Crosse, and Patrick Bluske of Mankato MN. We also had two grandchildren; Caeleigh Bluske and Maddie (Josh) Whitley and two great grandchildren, Wynston and Amelia.

Unfortunately, this is a one-way trip for me and to those of you who knew me I bid you a fond farewell, and who knows maybe will meet again someday. And finally, unlike the rest of you I don’t have to get up in the morning. And, in passing (no pun intended), I totally agree with the words of Somerset Maugham when he said. “Dying is a very dull dreary affair. And my advice to you is to have nothing to do with it.”

Condolences

This self written obituary made me smile through the sadness. Mr. Bluske was my good friend’s father. I will remember him most by the camping trips I was included on near Black River Falls. I can still hear him bellowing the words to Elvira by the Oakridge Boys. Wonderful campfires and memorable entertainment by the man who may, or may not, have also been enjoying some whiskey. RIP

    • Kathy Kruse

      Thank you Dave.

    • Patrick Bluske

      Great memories. Thanks.

My condolences to the Bluske Family. I will miss Kurt’s hilarious sense of humor, funny Facebook posts and his beautiful photography of his travels. I knew both of your parents from Schmidty’s, my husband was a bartender there for years. I later found out I grew up around the corner from them on Market Street. I loved that he wrote his own obituary!

  17. To Kathy Mike and pat from his old friend Jim koelbl@

So sad to read about your dad, l had so much fun with him. One time when we all lived in the Schuh homes one of the neighbors was gone for the eve. Your dad and I went to wettsteins and got a freezer box,cut a half moon on it ,a door and put a old toilet in the box and left it in their yard.that day it went to everyone’s yard. 3 or 4 months went by I got a flat tire, guess where you’re dad had put the tire.

    • Kathy Kruse

Thank you Jim! So many fond memories ❤️
