Obituary

Leonard Ray Nichols

December 27, 2024 | 8 comments

Leonard Nichols, age 97, has passed away, December 26, 2024.

He was a devoted husband to Phyllis, father to six, grandfather to 12, and great-grandfather to 15, a loving and true-blue family man.  Additional family includes sister, Ruthann, and family, as well as family in Galesville.

He was an intelligent, strong, hard-working man, and a great teacher of many things. Truck driving and carpentry were his occupations, and fishing, woodwork, bowling, golf, and baseball games were just a few of his pastimes, usually with family by his side.

He was in the Army when young and proud of his service, an active lifelong member of the American Legion, playing cards weekly with friends. A highlight was when he went on the Freedom Honor Flight. It was hard for him to move from the family home he built, but he was a trooper through recent changes. With love and fond memories, may he rest in peace.

There will be a family gathering at the Onalaska Cemetery Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 11:30, with a Celebration of Life at Leonard’s request at the Onalaska American Legion starting at 12:15.

My condolences to the Nichols family. Jens, Pat, and myself got to spend many great times with Nick out in the deer woods and duck swamps. I have so many fun memories of Nick during those days in the outdoors. Nick and Jens always had to stop at a local watering hole after the hunt to retell the stories of the day and that was always special. I have thought of Nick often while in the deer woods over the years. I am so sorry for your loss.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the Nichols family. I have many fond memories of sitting around the dining room table with Leonard and family, Phyllis on the piano and the rest of us laughing away, especially at Christmas time when Leonard would make his famous Tom & Jerrys! May he rest in peace with Phyllis at his side.
