Linda Lou Curtis, 75, of Onalaska, died peacefully on December 17, 2018 at the Onalaska Care Center. She was born on January 16, 1943 to Selma (Hole) and Joseph Maier. She married James Lewis Curtis on August 29, 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Church in La Crosse, WI.

Linda graduated from Logan High School on June 4, 1961. From there she went on to attend and graduate from the Accredited Schools of Beauty Culture, Inc. in Milwaukee. She used her degree in her field as a hairdresser before working for Century Telephone Company in La Crosse. She then began as a front office manager and bookkeeper at Curtis Printing for many years, eventually retiring from there.

Linda had an expansive love of many things throughout her life, one of which included Barry Manilow. She had an extreme love of animals, especially her dogs, KC, Sarg, Binky and “grand dog”, Bruno. She was very artistic creating and specializing in beautiful needlework, ceramics, and especially knitting. She created many afghans and scarves for family and friends. Linda was big on planning family events, especially Christmas and graduations. She loved to travel with her husband, together they visited Hawaii, all the states west of the Mississippi River and more. A proud Norwegian, the highlight of her travels was with her sister, MaryAnn, when, in 1993, they traveled to Norway for a family reunion, which she considered a trip of a lifetime.

She is survived by her husband, James Curtis; son, Douglas (Jill) Curtis; brothers, James (Carol) Maier, Robert Maier, and Joseph (Marilyn) Maier; brother in law’s, Dave (Beth) Curtis and Stephen (Jeanne) Curtis and many other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Selma (Hole) Maier; father, Joseph Maier; step-father, John Haraldson; sister, MaryAnn (Maier) Wartinbee; brother in law, James Wartinbee; sister in law, Shirley Maier; and special friend, Florence (Frank) Riese.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Onalaska Care Center for the comfort they provided in Mom’s final days.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 5, 2018 at Coulee Region Cremation Group in the Prairie Room, 133 Mason St., Onalaska, with visitation from 10:00 am until the time of the service. Pastor Jason Stanton will officiate.
