Obituary
Lisa L. Schindler
On Monday, February 17, 2014, an angel came down from heaven to escort the soul of Lisa L. Schindler to be with her Heavenly Father throughout eternity.
Lisa fought a courageous battle with small cell lung cancer for over two years. Lisa was a fighter, and she fought this hard through many ups and downs. Her determination to beat this was truly an inspiration.
She was born on October 16, 1952 in Pewaukee, WI to Bill and Dorothy Akin who were waiting for her arrival in heaven. She was also preceded in death by her grandparents and a very special man in her life, her father-in-law, Douglas Schindler. She will also be dancing and playing with all the pets she gave such a wonderful life (take special care of her Sammy and Jazzy).
Survivors include her husband, Tim, with whom she was married to for almost 27 years. Also surviving are her sister, Shari of Cottage Grove, WI and other extended family. Lisa will also be dearly missed by her two favorite boys, her golden retrievers, Adam Samuel and Rocket (Rocky).
Lisa lived a full life. She enjoyed having fun so much. She will live forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
Tim and Shari would like to thank everyone who prayed for and thought of Lisa in her struggle. Special thanks must be given to everyone in the Oncology and Radiation depts of Gundersen Health, in particular, Dr Michael Ojalabi and Dr. Collin Driscoll. Also thank you to the Palliative Care team, especially Kaye Johnston, PA-C, for her compassion. To everyone at Deli Express who prayed, kept us in their thoughts and did what they could to accommodate me so I could be with Lisa when she needed me. Rob Ashiem, a special thank to you and Mary.
My family, Lisa loved you like you were her own. Special thanks to my godmother, Gerry Heilman and my Uncle Larry and Aunt Lois Guggenbuehl and especially my brother and sister-in-law, Pat and Donna Schindler for always staying in touch throughout the past two years. Your help meant a lot. To the staff and nurses in the Oncology wing on the sixth floor of Gundersen Health, especially Katy. The kindness and professionalism shown by each and everyone of you meant so much. The family would like to thank some very special neighbors, Bob and Mary Beth, Dale and Sue, and John and Judy. To everyone at St. Joseph the Workman, especially those who regularly attend 7 am Mass, thank you. A special thanks Bea and Mike. Father Cook, thank you for bringing Lisa closer to God. To anyone missed, we apologize but your thoughts, prayers and actions were greatly appreciated.
Lisa’s funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral Marian Chapel, 530 Main St., La Crosse. Msgr. Charles Stoetzel will celebrate and Rev. Robert Cook will concelebrate. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the mass in the Marian Chapel. A private burial will be held at a later date in the Green Mound Cemetery in Holmen. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
The family is requesting memorials be directed to Gundersen Medical Foundation for Lung Cancer Research.

Tim-
I heard of Lisa’s passing and it broke my heart. I got to know Lisa pretty well at the salon as you know. I knew where you were driving each day, I knew what your pets were getting into each day, and I saw her smile each day. I knew how much she loved you, I knew she looked for roses as signs, and I knew what you guys ate each for each holiday. I knew that she had the best outlook on life of anyone I know, had a huge heart, and didn’t want anyone to feel sorry for her because she was going to beat her cancer. And I knew that as much as she didn’t want to leave you, she was ready to meet God when he was ready to call her home.
I’ll never forget the day you guys stopped at our motel to show me her wig and I didn’t even recognize her, she got such a kick out of that. =)
Us girls at the salon would like to put a little something in her her honor, in her favorite room here. Lisa became a good friend of mine, when I talked to her a few weeks ago, she had told me had just had good results again and she would be in as soon as she could, not to worry. So I was pretty surprised to hear she passed. I’m saddened that I didn’t get to see her one last time, but so glad I had that one last conversation with her.
Take care, I’ll be thinking of you, and please call or visit anytime.
In loving memory, The Riley’s
