Loren Dale Nerby

February 20, 2025 | 6 comments

Loren Dale Nerby, 79, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather passed away February 18, 2025. Loren was born in La Crosse, WI on May 22, 1945 to LaVerne Nerby and Lillian (Peterson) Nerby of Holmen; where Loren lived all of his life.

Loren was a jack of all trades; driving a bakery truck, driving dump truck, fixing cars and stock cars and he was an excellent carpenter that could fix and build just about anything. After he built many homes in the surrounding area; he traded in his hammer for a computer as a material estimator for WI Builders Supply, where he retired from after 19 years.

Loren was honest and hard-working; a little grumpy at times, but his bark was worse than his bite. If you let yourself get to know him, he was gentle and kind. To this day he still would insist on saving can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House and donating to St Judes faithfully.

Loren loved his family, friends, a few cold ones along with good conversations with all. Some of his favorite things: a Red Ford F150, a Mustang Convertible, a heated garage, Christmas Eve with all the kids, LeRoy’s chocolate drinks, fish frys at the Marine, roast beef/mashed potatoes/green beans, Alan Jackson music, the American flag and Donald Trump.

Loren is survived by his loving wife Sandy of 44 years. Their children; Kevin Nerby/Andrea, Kim Garves/Todd, Penny Kissel, Kurt Kissel/Dena, Troy Kissel. Their grand children; Brandon Weigel/Toni, Eli Nerby/Cece, Taylor Nelon/Tommy, Lauren Gardner/Derek, Jennifer Garves, Amanda Haag/Matt, Hailey Fischer, Tyler Fischer, Morgan Hall/Joey and Chanlyr Kissel. Great grandchildren; Cambree, Libertee, Cora, Kolton, Logan, Hayden, Aubree, Alia, Nora, Hudson, Maverick, Amelia and Merrick and Great Great grandchild Cruz.

At Loren’s request and Sandy’s promise; there will be no service. We would like to leave you with this reading by an Unknown Author

When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in gloom-filled rooms, why cry for a soul set free?

Miss me a little – but not too long, and not with your head bowed low; remember the love that we once shared. Miss me – but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take, and each must go alone. It’s all a part of the Master’s plan, a step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart, go to the friends we know, and busy your sorrows in doing good deeds. Miss me – but let me go.
