Obituary
Mark L. Droog
Mark L Droog, 71, passed away on November 2nd, 2024 surrounded by loved ones after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. Mark was born June 3rd, 1953 to Beverly and Vernon Droog.
Mark was a devoted friend, family member, and skilled carpenter. As a freelance carpenter, he embraced every project with enthusiasm and a unique flair. Mark was well known in his community as the handyman wherever he went. There was not a problem that he couldn’t solve. He didn’t just complete a task; he imparted valuable lessons along the way, leaving a lasting legacy of knowledge and kindness.
As an avid outdoorsman, Mark thrived in nature, whether hunting, fishing, or camping. He cherished the moments spent around a campfire, sharing stories and laughter over a cold beer with family and friends. His love for the outdoors was matched only by his passion for games, everything from cribbage to cards and the thrill of the slots. Mark was an avid reader in his quieter moments, finding joy in the pages of countless books.
Mark proudly served a short stint in the Air Force, which reflected his dedication and sense of duty. He had a heart for his community, always the first to lend a hand to neighbors or family alike.
He was greeted in heaven by his parents, Grandma Cecile Jones, Aunt Merm Caswell, Uncle Bill Caswell, brothers Dan Droog and David Droog, nephew Andy Butterfield, granddaughter Echo Bloom, good friend Roy, and loving dog Gabe.
He is survived by the love of his life, Julie, brothers Michael (Patty) Droog of La Crosse, and Matthew (Nancy) Droog of Waseca, MN, his children Joshua (Melissa) Leske, Anthony Newman, Angela (Curt) Hoffman, Bradly Melcher, Mariah Strong, Justin Melcher, Timothy (Caity) Droog, Benjamin (Nicole) Droog and grandchildren Westley Hoffman, Shania Lange, Codi Strong, Rafe Hoffman, Tristan Strong, Westley Arihood, Zerenity Smith, Jayden Harris, and Shelby Leske. We also cannot forget his cousin Vicki Starek, long-time friends Gerry and his family, and John and April.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St., Onalaska, WI. Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
Mark was a leader of mine in Troop 9 at Hogan School, way back in the 60s. Always nice, always supportive.
He made an impression that I still remember. My condolences to all.
