Marvin Joseph Mattison

Marvin Joseph Mattison (Age 76) peacefully passed away on May 15th 2023 in La Crosse WI.   He born December 11, 1946 in Springfield, MN to Joseph and Effie (Erickson) Mattison.

He was raised on a farm in North of Revere, MN. Went went to school in Walnut Grove, MN. He worked for his uncle’s farm in Redwood, MN. In 1963, they moved to Milwaukee, MN. He was a senior and had developed type 1 diabetes. On a visit to his brother Ray’s he met Sharon (Campbell). They married on September 14, 1968. They lived in Holmen, WI until 1985. They had six children. They moved to Onalaska, WI to be closer to church & work. He retired from Trane after 27 years. He was a hard working man. When they retired they moved to LaCrosse, WI where they resided.

Music was his passion. He played guitar, trumpet, keyboard, etc. He played music for church events. They went to care centers to play and sing. He loved bringing karaoke for family events. His family has always loved music.

He is survived by his wife Sharon Mattison. His children JoAnn (Shane) Hedegaard, Julie (Kelly) Dunnum, Joseph (Kate) Mattison, Jennifer Jewell, and June (Adam) Schmid. He has 23 grandchildren. Jacquelynn (Billy) Bishofsky, Jennay (Johnny) Mulholland, Andrea, & Troy Hedegaard, Garrett, & Anna Dunnum, Keaton (Sadie) Misch, Kolten Mattison, Caleb Mattison, Lila, Dannie Mattison, Gabrielle Mattison, Callista Spors, Jocelyn Spors, Ariel Jewell, Oliver Jewell, Bethany, Jacob, Bailey, & Aubrey Schmid. He had 5 great grandchildren, Kenden, Xavier, & Sabastian Bishofsky, Emilia Mulholland, and Olivia Misch. His sister LeAnn (Michael) Lagerman, his brother Richard (Joyce) Mattison.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Effie Mattison, sisters Evelyn Mattison, Darlene Gorres, Loretta Dobert, and a brother Raymond Mattison. His oldest daughter Janet Mattison.

We will be having a celebration of life on June 17, 2023 from 3-7. Shelter Onalaska, WI.

    I remember playing guitar with Marv at St. Paul’s church. It was so enjoyable to praise the Lord with that type of music so very many years ago. My condolences to the family.
