Nancy Jean (Tanke) Amann

Nancy Jean (Tanke) Amann entered the presence of her Lord and Savior on June 28th, 2025 at her home in Holmen, WI surrounded by her loving family after her diagnosis of leukemia.

Nancy was born on December 28, 1947 to parents Jean Louise (Pfennig) and Robert Tanke in La Crosse, WI.  Nancy was the oldest and soon followed by her brother, William (Bill) Tanke and sister Linda (Tanke) Smolek.

Following her high school graduation from Luther High School in Onalaska, WI, she went on to complete her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse.  She graduated from Milwaukee County General Hospital School of Nursing in 1969.  She was blessed with a long career in nursing, which included experiences in Philadelphia, PA and in North Carolina.  The majority of her career was spent at Gundersen Lutheran in La Crosse where she spent 36 years and found the area of nursing was her passion as she went on to get additional certifications in both Rehabilitation and Pain Management.  She retired in 2012 after a long and rewarding career.

She married the love of her life, Leslie Ray Amann, on May 28, 1982.  She viewed him as a gift from God and together they were able to serve their Savior for many years.

Nancy is survived by her husband Leslie, her children Jason (Randi) Santos, Rob (Jennifer) Santos, Caleb (Meydi) Amann, Aric Amann, son-in-law Jacob Johnson, brother William (Linda) Tanke, sister Linda (James) Smolek, 11 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Frank and Louis Pfennig, William and Elvina Tanke, parents Robert and Jean Tanke, father-in-law Richard Amann, mother-in-law Esther Amann, daughter Angel (Amann) Johnson, sister Barbara Amann, infant brother Robert “Bobby” Tanke and 2 nephews Tyler Amann and Oliver Massman.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 1st from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at Holmen Baptist Church (W7656 McHugh Ct W, Holmen, WI 54636)

Funeral, with Wisconsin Nurse Honor Guard, to be held on Wednesday July 2nd at 11:00am at Holmen Baptist Church with visitation for two hours prior to the service at the church.

Graveside service to follow at Green Mound Cemetery in Holmen, WI.

A luncheon will be held at Holmen Baptist Church immediately following the graveside service.

    Mrs. Amann was one of the nicest ladies I knew. As a preacher’s kid I could always count in her to show kindness and grace. I have no doubt her loss will leave a crater size void in the lives of those that were close to her. Rest in peace Mrs. Amann.

    Nancy was the best friend everyone wishes they had. She was such a treasure in my life. I will certainly miss her, but she is walking with our Savior and her children who have gone before her, as well as many others. My condolences to Les, Jason, Rob and Caleb. Our goodbyes are Heavens hellos!!
