James Edward Johnston, 79, of Onalaska, died peacefully on September 4, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family.

James is survived by his wife, Joan; sisters, Katheryn (Dennis) Bjornstad, Mary Jo Johnston; brother, Gary (Gloria) Johnston; brother in law, Michael (Patricia) Stuhr; sister in law, Judy Johnston; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Sr and Grace Johnston; brothers, Ronald and William Jr. Johnston; brother and sister in law, Douglas and Anne Stuhr.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 18, 2017 at North Presbyterian Church, 1327 N Salem Rd. La Crosse, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Scott Skogen will officiate.

Coulee Region Cremation Group is assisting the family.
