Obituary

James Richard Engler

September 13, 2010

James “Jim” R. Engler, 60, of La Crosse passed away on September 11, 2010.  He was born on August 8, 1950 to John N. and Evelyn E. Engler (Syverson) in La Crosse.

Jim graduated from Central High School in 1968.  He was drafted into the Army and served in the Vietnam War from February, 1970 to September, 1971.

 On June 30th, 1973 he married the former Mary A. Jungen and they had two children, Matthew John and Jamie Lynn.

 Jim enjoyed playing softball and was a member of many teams in the 1970’s and 1980’s around La Crosse, especially playing for Dick & Ann’s Bar and Mr. Styx.  He also enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and watching the Green Bay Packers. 

 Jim worked for Continental Can Company (now known as Crown Cork & Seal) for 36 years until his retirement in 2004.

 Jim is survived by his son, Matthew John of Durango, Colorado; and his daughter, Jamie Lynn (Chase) Longmiller of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; one grandchild, Liam Longmiller of Sheboygan.  Four sisters, Patricia (Donald) Carlson of Spooner; Barbara Galarce of La Crosse; Annette (Gary) Olson of Onalaska; and Linda Otto of La Crosse.  He is further survived by 12 nieces and nephews, 20 great nieces and nephews, and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.

 Jim was preceded in death by his father and mother, one brother, Parris, two nephews and one great nephew.

 Jim was loved by his family and many friends, and will always be fondly remembered.

 A gathering and celebration of Jim’s life for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at the Myrick Park Main Shelter in La Crosse from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Interment of Jim’s urn will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Veteran’s section.
