Joanne Marie Rodenbeck Kiehne, 92, our sweet loving mother, passed away at Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility, the Lighthouse 200 Unit, Sunday, February 18th, 2018 with her family at her side. Joanne was born April 11, 1925 in Hubbard, Iowa to Frederick and Ella Louise Rodenbeck.
As a young girl the family moved frequently when her protestant minister father was called to a new church. Joanne attended Elmhurst College, Elmhurst Illinois, where she graduated in 1946 with a degree in Sociology. She met her husband Harold at Elmhurst College. They were married in 1948 by Joanne’s father. The first years of marriage they lived in Addison, Illinois and in 1957 they moved to La Crosse, Wi. Together as parents, they raised their children with strong values, religion, respect of others and to work hard. Family was their life. Joanne was active in AAUW, St. John’s UCC, all her children’s activities and schools, was a girl scout leader, a cook , a baker, sewed clothes for her daughters, knit, journeled her story and worked hard to provide a good life for her family.
Joanne was proceeded in death by her husband, her brothers Frederick and Dick, sister Betty and daughter-in-law Barbara Kiehne.
She is survived by her children; Jan (Terry) Werner, Lisa (Gregg) Garner, Gary Kiehne, Paul (Linda) Kiehne. Her grandchildren, Chris (Erica Wisehart)Garner, Anna Garner, Brett Werner, Bryan (Amanda) Werner, Paul Kiehne, Korin (Dan) Sackmann. Great Grandchildren; Thatcher and Skyler Werner, Aelyse, Ava and Annyka Werner & William Sackmann. Her sister Rhoda Laudel and family of St Louis, Missouri.
Joanne enjoyed life to the fullest and when she no longer was able to live at home, she resided at Bethany Riverside Nursing Facility, the 200 Lighthouse Unit, where she was treated with dignity and understanding of her dementia. The staff enjoyed her stories, smiles and laughter. Her family is eternally grateful for the excellent care she received while a resident there.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, March 10th, 2018 at the Coulee Region Cremation Group in the Prairie Room, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska, Wi. 54650 with visitation at 10:30 am. Memorials will be directed to the Recreation Therapy Department at Bethany Riverside Nursing Home.
