July 15, 2018 | 41 comments

John Paul Marshall, age 31, of Brice Prairie, passed away doing what he loved on July 14, 2018. He was born January 10, 1987 to Tom and Kate (Gamoke) Marshall.

John enjoyed everything outdoors, no matter the season. From hunting to fishing, to snowmobiling to boating, hanging out with his friends on the river or even just sitting around a campfire at night. John enjoyed working in his garage fixing and building things. Pretty much anything with a motor had Johns interest. He also loved spending time with all his friends and family. He loved living his life to the fullest.

He is survived by his parents,Tom & Kate (Gamoke) Marshall, his sister Laura (Marshall) and her husband Dustin Stigen and his favorite little niece Adalyn Stigen. Many uncles, aunts and cousins, his two pet ducks, and many, many special friends, all too many to list.

John was preceded in death by the love of his life Miranda Roellich. His maternal grandparents Rea and Joe Gamoke, his paternal grandfather John Marshall, his cousin Scott Anderson, his great grandmother Mayme Evans, and his good buddy Dan Hesselberg.

Thank you to all Johns good friends and family and everyone that has been apart of our life and Johns life.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Holmen.  Visitations will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Coulee Region Cremation Group in the Prairie Room in Onalaska and also from 9:30 am until the time of mass at the church on Saturday.  A celebration of life will be held immediately after the mass in the Gathering Place at the Coulee Region Cremation Group.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

  27. A stranger touched by John

I did not really know John. I only knew of him through a mutual acquaintance but I have a story that speaks to the beautiful person he was. My boyfriends 10 year old son was having a major surgery on both of his legs at Mayo in Rochester and our only vehicle had broken down. Knowing we needed a way to get back and forth to the hospital from the LaCrosse area, John reached out to people he knew to find a way for us to be able to do that. He brought us to a man that he knew that had a “few extra vehicles around”. I don’t know what conversation John had with this man, but we walked away with a vehicle that we paid a couple hundred dollars for and John took care of the few minor repairs that it needed. We could not thank him enough and he wouldn’t take anything in return. Without a caring person like John we would not been able to focus on the care that a 10 year old boy needed. I don’t think we could have ever thanked him enough nor do i think he knew what his kindness really meant to us.

Tom and Kate, I am very sorry for your loss. I sure did like my friend, John Marshall.
He had evolved into becoming a fine young man, and I was proud to know him.
He brought much that was good, into my life…
I enjoyed our many times together, and I will very much miss this very good man.
Unfortunately, the World is a lesser place now, as it lost a guy who made the place
    better, when John was around.
    One fine Guy.

  29. Mary(Henkels) Vold

    Tom & Kate
So sorry to hear about the loss of your son. Losing a child must be one of the worst pain a parent endures.

We are planning on attending the service on Saturday.

Looking forward to seeing you and the family.

    Love,
    Mary

  30. Kevin and Martha Helin

  31. Lindsay M Gulley

John, it’s been a while since we had seen each other last but it doesn’t change the many good memories of you that I will forever carry in my heart, from snowmobiling at 4 am to parties at Brandon’s to hanging out with Tyler. I hope you are at ?? now and that you have been reunited with your loved ones including Miranda and Tyler. I’m going to miss you.

To John’s Family, I am so very sorry for your loss of such a kind young man. As they say, only the good die young and in this case it seems so fitting. John was always there to lend a hand, to help or to just make a joke and put a smile on your face when you needed it most. You never get over the pain of grief, but only learn to live with it. I hope you find some type of comfort in the coming weeks months and years. Keep John in your heart and mind and in that way he will live on forever.

  32. Yvonne Johnston

Please accept my sincere sympathy for losing your son John. I was a friend of Miranda’s and her mother Denise also. I hope you know our prayers and thoughts are with your family at this difficult time. God bless you and may his love sustain you now and forever.

  33. greg roellich

    Dear Kate, Tom and Laura,
I was saddened to hear about John when Roger called me Saturday morning. I know Miranda and John are together now forever. I also want you to know that I wrote a letter to the Tribune in regards to article yesterday. I doubt they will print it. It was not neccesary for them to write the story that way. Our families did not deserve that. Nor did John. He was a good man and you should be proud of him. We all truly cared for him and will deeply miss him! Gods blessings to you all in this time of sorrow.
