Obituary
Rex G. McNeill
Rex Glen McNeill, 63, of La Crosse passed away unexpectedly Friday, January 22, 2021 surrounded by family.
Rex was born March 23, 1957, in La Crosse, to Gerald and June (Peterson) McNeill.
He attended Logan High School through 1975. He worked as a groundskeeper at the Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse for many years. Rex later moved to Nevada for several years to be with his dear sister, Patti and help raise her two boys, Dallas and Tyler.
As a young boy, Rex enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, and later participated in competition shooting with his brother Pete, and good friends Larry and Rex. Growing up, he also spent many summers camping on sandbars in Brownsville with his brothers and sisters.
Rex is survived by his son, Shane Deback of South Korea, his three brothers; Wayne Young, Mike Young, and Pete McNeill and his four sisters; Vicky (Wayde) Anger, Diane (Rich) Czechowicz, Patti (Jim) Weir, and Barb Volden. Rex is also survived by one niece, several nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews.
Rex was preceded in death by and will be reunited with both parents, Gerald and June; two brothers, Bill Young and Gerry Ray McNeill; and two nephews, Tyler Miller and Brandon Grosskopf.
Rex will be remembered for his elaborate story telling. He always watched over his younger brothers and sisters, and made sure everyone knew not to mess with them! Rex was a very caring, and loving man who would give the shirt off his back to anyone. He never seemed to worry much about himself, instead worried about everyone else and their wellbeing.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date due to covid restrictions.
Our family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at CCLS and Coulee Region Cremation Group in addition to the staff at Gundersen Health Systems who helped keep Rex comfortable during his last moments with us.
My condolences to Rex’s family.
So sorry to hear of Rex’s passing. I remember being scared of him when I was a kid because he work at a cemetery. He was always fun to talk to and was a always smiling when I saw him.
