It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rich Kubal after a long medical journey, Rich passed peacefully surrounded by loved ones on February 11, 2025.  A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He was born December 16, 1940 to Edward and Harriet Kubal.  He married Bernita Eckert on May 16, 1964.  Rich and Bernita celebrated 60 wonderful years together this past year.

Rich worked at the La Crosse Cooler Company and then at Trane Company from which he retired from.  He was an avid outdoorsman, spending his days fishing on the lake, getting ready for the spring turkey hunt and looking forward to fall deer hunting.

Some of his favorite days were spent with his brother, Ed.  If you knew Rich, you knew he loved his garden.  Each year he carefully selected that summer’s seeds, particularly his favorite onions and radishes.  He grew the best tomatoes on French Island.  The family always looked forward to the fresh bags of produce he would send home with them.

Rich is survived by his wife, Bernita; children, Richard Jr (Connie Hicks) Kubal, Susan (Corey) Dwyer; grandchildren, Nicole (Matthew) Barbour, Zachary (Emma) Kubal, Austin (Noah) Frye, Gabrielle Kubal; great-grandchildren, Elsie, Henry and Emmett Barbour, Deacon Kubal; brother, Ed Kubal; sister, Sharon Prosser; many cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and close friend Frank Sedevie.

Preceded in death by his parents, aunts and uncles.

A celebration of life service will be held on Monday, February 24th, 2025 at 11:30 am at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason St., Onalaska.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the service.  Pastor Karyn Bodenschatz of First Lutheran Church in Onalaska will officiate.   Online condolences may be left at couleecremation.com.
