Robert (Bob) Allen Miller, age 88, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 3, 2022, at his home in Onalaska, Wisconsin. He was born May 15, 1934, in Bismarck, ND, son of Fred and Bertha (Hauff) Miller.

Robert attended Bismarck High School, graduating in 1952. He attended North Dakota State College until he joined the Navy, assigned aboard the destroyer, the USS Erben. In addition to his other duties, he was the ship’s chaplain. On January 12, 1956, Robert married Loretta Reich while home on furlough (married 66 years). He spent three years in the Navy and in 1957, received an honorable medical discharge. After the Navy, Robert attended the State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, graduating with honors in the electrical field. The couple then moved to Grand Forks, ND, where Robert worked in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University of North Dakota.

Robert was very mechanical and could fix anything. He loved the challenge of troubleshooting a problem and then solving it. Robert worked with mechanical systems in various companies throughout his career including Johnson Controls and Williams, where he was a superintendent. He was known as a hard worker who always tried to do his best.

Robert’s interests were electrical wiring, fixing vehicles or small engines, fishing, classical music, building model ships, and later in life, watching birds and the animals from his window. He had a beautiful voice and sang in church choirs most of his life. His pride and joy were his kids and grandkids.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Bertha; three brothers, Eugene, Fred, and Don; and one sister, Florence. He is survived by his wife, Loretta; five children, Carrie (Clifton) Franklund, Paul (Kristi) Miller, Joan (Layton) Anderson, Daniel (Ann) Miller, and Steven (Laurie) Miller; 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be on October 22, 2022, at The Gathering Place, 133 Mason Street, Onalaska, WI 54601 with visitation from 10 -11 am and the service at 11 am.

The family of Robert Miller would like to thank the Hospice Team of Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI, for their loving care of Bob and support given to the family.
